Fran Berry joined PK and Ruby as a special guest on this week’s From the Horse’s Mouth podcast and was kind enough to take us through EVERY race on Saturday’s card for Irish Derby day at the Curragh.
He also discussed the action on ITV with Mr Walsh and their thoughts on the Newcastle and Newmarket coverage are below…
14:25 Newcastle
RUBY: Sense Of Duty
I like SENSE OF DUTY, who beat Flotus at Haydock last time out and whose form was franked by his third-placed finish at Royal Ascot. That form looks the strongest here. Spycatcher looks the only danger but I’m still with Sense Of Duty.
FRAN: Sense Of Duty & Bielsa
SENSE OF DUTY looks the one to beat but BIELSA could be worth looking at considering his price. He’s drawn in stall 12 and he finished 12th at York last time out. He could outrun his odds.

RUBY: Zoffee
I’m going for an ex-jumper in ZOFFEE, who’s trained by Hugo Palmer. He had a good first run for Hugo at Salisbury behind Spirit Mixer and he followed that up by winning at Carlisle last month. The step up in trip will suit him and he can outrun his odds.
FRAN: Catbird Seat
Hollie Doyle is on CATBIRD SEAT for Alan King. His form is solid and his last couple of runs at Chepstow and Kempton were impressive. He’s definitely going to be in the mix.

15:15 Newmarket
RUBY: Sunray Major
I can see why Laneqash and SUNRAY MAJOR are ahead of Pogo in the betting. I don’t think Sunray Major had the best run at Haydock but he’s got cheekpieces on for the first time here so I’ll side with him.
FRAN: Art Du Val
I quite like ART DU VAL, even though Pogo ran really well at Haydock last time out. William Buick is on board for Charlie Appleby and he finished second at York last time. He could build on that and he isn’t far behind the rest at a much bigger price.

RUBY: Alright Sunshine
This seems a hard race to pick a winner so I’ll go with ALRIGHT SUNSHINE as he could place. Billy Garritty rides for Keith Dalgleish and he came home well at Ascot. He’s consistent and he usually runs a solid race. He likes to come off the pace and he’s a good each-way play.
FRAN: Rainbow Dreamer
It’ll be some effort if Trueshan can win this off top weight but I like Alan King’s second string RAINBOW DREAMER. He’s been dropped 4lbs since running in April. His form is good and he likes the all-weather track. He’ll do me!
