13:55 – Grageelagh Girl

On We Go was in excellent form for her new stable in the spring and ought to make a bold bid to replicate this month’s dominant C&D win. However, GRAGEELAGH GIRL was unlucky to have the hunter chase on that card snatched away from her and now reverts to hurdling on a good mark. Shaws Bridge got his career back on track at Hexham last month and is next on the list.

14:30 – Ballyquin Bay

Free Handshake sets a fair hurdling standard and ought to be a tough nut to crack but Gordon Elliott’s quite stoutly bred 4yo BALLYQUIN BAY caught the eye when keeping on over 2m in his last two races and, now upped in trip, may improve past Gavin Cromwell’s runner.

15:05 – Shantou Express

Having struggled in two very useful 2m contests for the time of year when initially seen over fences last autumn, SHANTOU EXPRESS has far more in his favour here, not least a trip closer to his present optimum and a main rival in Western Run whose jumping still doesn’t always pass muster. The penalised Rapid Flight has a lot to do strictly on ratings, but as an in-form safe conveyance proven around here it wouldn’t shock totally were he to prove second best.

15:40 – Mah Mate Bob

Having come so close to winning the same C&D event for the second year running last month, and still well below that mark last defied in May 2021 despite a 2lb re-raise, MAH MATE BOB (nap) gets the nod over Darius Des Sources, the latter finding his way back since wind surgery and much better again last time at Perth. Hailing from an immediate family full of chase scorers, Post No Bills is also worth consideration now facing fences.

16:15 – Larry Looby

An open race in which the vote goes to LARRY LOOBY, who came good over fences with an easy win at Hexham two weeks ago and still looks feasibly treated off his revised mark. Oceans Red improved his chase record to 2-4 when scoring at Uttoxeter and he’s feared most, ahead of another last-time-out winner High Counsel. The other one on the shortlist is Loughermore, who was a creditable second over C&D last time and still has potential in this sphere.

16:47 – Demi Sang

A few chances may rest on whether the forecast showers land, with A Mere Bagatelle perhaps likely to appreciate a drop or two and Tommydan and Kayfast Warrior worth a look if conditions remain sound underfoot. DEMI SANG is unlikely to mind either way, however, and a more aggressive ride this time than last might just see him uphold recent C&D form over two reopposing rivals. Golden Town (next best) is just 1-15 at his local track but starts the summer too well handicapped to ignore.

17:20 – Battle Of Toro

Ted Hastings created a pretty good impression on last month’s hurdling debut at Ayr but at Kelso last time he displayed a rather awkward head carriage and ought to have given the comfortable winner more of a race. Preference is for BATTLE OF TORO, who came good over hurdles with a wide-margin C&D success three weeks ago and, if his French Flat form is a guide, could still have a lot more to offer in this sphere.
