LADY LAVINA stepped up on her debut form when filling the runner-up spot in a maiden at Chelmsford earlier this month, keeping on well to pass the post just a length and a quarter behind the promising winner. That form sets the standard in this line-up and there should be more to come from her after just two starts. A wide draw is far from ideal, but Lady Lavina is fancied to overcome that to get off the mark at the third attempt.
EL PICADOR got back on track with a comfortable success at Musselburgh two weeks ago, only winning by a length and a half but looking value for extra after making his effort from a long way back in a steadily-run race. The manner of that victory suggests he was full value for a 5 lb rise in the weights and he should get a stronger gallop to aim at now back down in trip. This is a wide-open handicap, but El Picador certainly has plenty in his favour in his follow-up bid.
BARTZELLA took a big step forward when winning a listed race at Goodwood last time, always doing enough to land the spoils by a neck (had a bit in hand). That was just her fourth start and her first after seven months on the sidelines, so it will be no surprise if she has an even bigger effort in the locker. William Haggas has his team in flying form (10 winners in the last 14 days) and Bartzella could well be capable of defying a penalty to make it two wins in a row.
DIDTHEYLEAVEUOUTTO continues in good heart and it was an encouraging effort to be beaten only three lengths at Chelmsford last time, particularly as the steady gallop would have been against him. A useful hurdler on his day, stamina seems to be his strong suit on the Flat and this will be the longest trip he has ever tackled in this sphere. A BHA mark of 66 is definitely workable judged on the balance of his form and this looks a good opportunity for him to resume winning ways.
UNPLUGGED was a remarkable winner for Mick and David Easterby at this course two weeks ago. That was his first start for three years (gelded during his absence) following a tendon injury, but he showed no signs of rustiness as he stayed on strongly to beat an in-form stablemate by half a length. The big question is whether that effort has left a mark after such a long absence, but there is little doubt that he remains with handicapping scope.

BULLET FORCE again shaped better than the bare result when finishing third at Chester last week, doing well to be beaten just a length and a half after being caught further back than ideal. He can race from the same mark today and the visor he wore for the first time at Chester is replaced by blinkers. This is a much weaker handicap and it’s surely just a matter of time before he wins one of these given how well he has been shaping recently.
DREAM COMPOSER has won his last two starts by narrow margins, first winning at this course in May and then defying a 4 lb higher mark to follow up at Goodwood last time. He was doing his best work at the finish at Goodwood, delivering a strong challenge to get the verdict by a neck. This will be tougher again following a further 3 lb rise in the weights, but he is clearly thriving at present and it will be no surprise if he proves up to the task in his hat-trick bid.
