Rory slammed in 4 winners on Wednesday and is hunting for some value at Royal Ascot on Gold Cup Thursday.

14:30 – Pillow Talk (each way)

Pillow Talk takes on the boys here, but I was very impressed by her attitude when winning the Listed Marygate Stakes at York last time and she has the raw speed to be competitive here. She faces a tough opponent in Walbank, who is given maximum respect, but should reward each-way support.

15:05 – Schmilsson, Inverness (both each way)

A high draw has been historically significant in this 1½m handicap and I’ll take two against the field in a really tricky handicap. Schmilsson swerved an opportunity at Epsom in favour of this and won with his head in his chest at Bath last time. He should be competitive, as should Inverness, who has been crying out for this trip and was given an easy time when he couldn’t win in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom last time. That form has worked out and he will improve for a test of stamina.

15:40 – Magical Lagoon

Magical Lagoon was game in defeat when just touched off by Concert Hall in the Salsabil Stakes at Navan last time. The winner was placed in the Irish Guineas and the third and fourth have both won since to add gloss to that form. Magical Lagoon looks a stayer and the extra couple of furlongs here should suit. She looks to have the best chance on form and, with more to offer, is hard to oppose.

    16:20 – Kyprios

A race which may boil down to a match with Trueshan expected to defect. Kyprios looks a much-improved performer this year and is just preferred to Stradivarius, who retains most of his ability but is beginning to look vulnerable at the highest level.

    17:00 – King Of Time

I’d expect the high draws to come to the fore here with a maximum field over the straight mile. King Of Time overcame trouble when winning with a fair bit up his sleeve at Newmarket in April and has been put aside for this since. He’s got what looks a perfect draw in 29 and will take plenty of beating again.

17:35 – Reach For The Moon

Reach For The Moon looks to have had this race set aside for him, with very few credible opponents. He’s a skinny price, however, so boost your returns by including Claymore in a forecast. Jane Chapple-Hyam’s charge had no chance the way things panned out in the French Guineas, but is bred to do better at 1¼m and appears the one horse capable of putting the mockers on a Royal party.

    18:10 – Chiefofchiefs

High draws should again be to the fore as they were in the Victoria Cup over C&D last month and the unlucky horse that day was Chiefofchiefs who was stopped multiple times in his run. Jamie Spencer takes over now and the Ascot specialist can show how unlucky he was by winning at a decent price.
