Royal Ascot 2.30pm – LOVE REIGNS
Day 2 kicks off with the Group 2 Queen Mary for juvenile fillies over 5f. The Wes Ward favourite LOVE REIGNS makes this very tough as it’s nigh on impossible to know how good she is. She went off quite a big price at Keeneland for a Ward runner but hacked up in a big field. The key, though, is the ground and the raider will love the fast conditions. I suspect she will be very hard to catch under the excellent Irad Ortiz.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Royal Ascot 3.05pm – NAHANNI
Now the Group 2 Queen’s Vase for 3yo over 1m6f. William Buick will have had the choice and he has chosen NAHANNI out of the leading Charlie Appleby pair and that’s good enough for me. The son of Frankel was a good winner at Epson two runs ago but never got involved in the Derby where he was sweaty and dwelt at the start. In the end he ran on well for seventh and that suggests this trip will be right up his street.
Royal Ascot 3.40pm – SHAHRYAR
The big one in the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes for 4yo+ over 1m2f. I’m all over Japanese star SHAHRYAR who has a great chance to make all the running. The small field means tactics come massively into play and teh Hideaki Fujiwara runner looks the certain leader after his huge win in Meydan over a mile and a half. If Cristian Demuro gets the fractions right it’s going to take a massive effort from anyone to go past him and that includes hot favourite Bay Bridge.
Royal Ascot 4.20pm – MOTHER EARTH
A Group 2 in the Duke of Cambridge for 4yo+ fillies and mares over 1m. MOTHER EARTH is one to take ons against colts and geldings but will be hard to stop against her own sex. Her rating is down due to recent efforts but she gets 5lb from Saffron Beach which is key for the former 1000 Guineas heorine. I think she will be too good for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.

Royal Ascot 5pm – Astro King
Now the Royal Hunt Cup Handicap for 3yo+ over 1m. ASTRO KING might seem obvious here for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore but he’s going to be very hard to keep out the frame. My hope never got the chance to show what he can do at Thirsk first time out this season so even though he was only ninth he goes from the same mark of 102. He’s not chucked in but will be staying on strongly and at current odds you make a profit if just placed.
Royal Ascot 5.35pm – Chateau (each way)
A Listed race for juveniles in the Windsor Castle over 5f. I’ll have a few quid eachway here on CHATEAU for Andrew Balding and William Buick. My selection was beaten at Salisbury first time but went in well at Beverley on his latest start and would have been much more impressive with a clear run. Will have learnt plenty and has much more to come.

Royal Ascot 6.10pm – Serenading
A handicap in the Kensington Palace for 4yo+ over 1m. SERENADING is just the type of horse Jamie Spencer will love riding and she might finish off strongly for a place at least for James Fanshawe. The mare has been consistent without winning this season and stays this trip strong so hope that she comes with a flying late run.
So best of luck and pray for Ascot Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
