Royal Ascot 2.30pm – Baaeed

The big meeting kicks off with the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes over 1m for four-year-old’s plus. Not every race can be a huge betting heat for the average punter and it’s hard to make an angle in here. BAAEED is the highest rated horse in the world and the opposition is weak so it’s clear to most that he will win bar an accident for William Haggas and Jim Crowley. If there has been eight runners I would have searched for an each way angle but with just seven the best advise is to use Baaeed for other doubles and trebles. He should hack up as we all know.

Royal Ascot 3.05pm – Bradsell

Now the Group 2 Coventry Stakes for juveniles over 6f. One thing noting here is the market leaders have looked good in very small fields. I’ll take a chance with BRADSELL who looked an absolute monster on debut at York for Archie Watson. The horse only cost 12,000 guineas as a yearling, but he later sold for £47,000 and a debut win by nine lengths could not have been more impressive. The form has a little substance and Hollie Doyle rides. It’s a guessing game with the juveniles but hopefully we are in there with a chance against more obvious types from bigger yards.

Royal Ascot 3.40pm – Man of Promise (each-way)

Another Group 1 here in the King’s Stand for three-year-old’s plus over 5f. I’ll stick with the Meydan improver MAN OF PROMISE who looked awesome during the winter months and was unlucky to be beaten when last seen when the draw was against him. The Charlie Appleby runner will travel like a machine off the assured strong gallop – it’s what he needs – and might be good enough to come powering through if the International runners disappoint. Have a few quid on each-way and hope William Buick has a decent spin. Although away from Golden Pal, from stall 1 Winter Power will go hard also.

Royal Ascot 4.20pm – Berkshire Shadow (each way)

A cracker in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes for three-year-old colts over 1m. This is a little like Baaeed’s race but Coroebus faces a new challenge here in My Prospero who stays well so I would not want to lump on at a short price. Also from stall 2 Coroebus could get blocked in from an inside draw. That said he’s clearly got the best form as the 2000 Guineas hero. I’m going to back BERKSHIRE SHADOW each-way for James Doyle and Andrew Balding. My hope kept on well when fourth in the Dewhurst and when fifth in the 2000 Guineas. Stall 10 is a bit high but he can slot in and is a huge price for a horse with his ability and experience. Nothing ventured…

Royal Ascot 5pm – Coltrane (each-way)

Now the Ascot Stakes Handicap over 2m4f for four-year-old’s plus. COLTRANE must have a big each-way chances for Andrew Balding and Callum Hutchinson who takes off a crucial 5lb. Of course there are possible blots on the handicap in this from an Irish perspective, but the Chester Cup runner-up is actually down 2lb here when you take his rider’s claim into account. He kept on well in May and is lightly-raced, has a good draw and should go well. Not chucked in on ratings, but has solid form.

Royal Ascot 5.35pm – Juan Elcano (each-way)

It’s the Listed Wolferton Stakes for four-year-old’s plus over 1m2f. JUAN ELCANO is the defending champion and I see no reason why he won’t go in again. He’s sure to get a good gallop to run at with Majestic Dawn in the line-up and while he was last of three at Sandown last time, he made the running there which is not his thing and actually kept on well. Andrea Atzeni is up again for his retained owner and Kevin Ryan trains. Has strong each-way chances.

Royal Ascot 6.10pm – Not So Sleepy (each-way)

The Copper Horse Handicap for four-year-old’s plus over 1m6f. Cleveland can easily hack up but I’ll risk the old boy NOT SO SLEEPY for Hughie Morrison and Adam Kirby. On hurdle ratings a mark of 99 is not impossible at all and he stays well and is reported to be in great form. Obviously he might prefer the going a bit softer but he’s pretty talented on a going day so at large odds, I’ll risk him each-way.

So best of luck and pray for Ascot Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
