14:00 – Shandy Star

SHANDY STAR showed a solid level of ability when thrown in the deep end in Listed company at York on racecourse debut 21 days ago. She looks to have a little bit of size and scope about her and she’s bound to improve for the experience. Stall number five should be a decent position for her and this doesn’t look the strongest renewal of the Woodcote Stakes.

14:35 – Hartswood

HARTSWOOD is starting to look very well handicapped and looks as if he’s going to get his ideal conditions, a strong pace and a big field. It could also rubberstamp a new trainer-jockey combination of Richard Fahey and Oisin Orr that we could be hearing plenty about in the future. This horse is also drawn well and won’t mind the little bit of juice that is in the ground.

15:10 – Pyledriver

Last year‘s winner PYLEDRIVER looks as if he’s going to be tough to beat. Very little was mentioned about how unlucky he was last time with Frankie Dettori on board and he’s not the type of rider to make the same mistake twice. High Definition probably represents the main danger after a solid run on home soil last time at the Curragh, although that does look his favoured track.

15:45 – Cap Francais

A one-time Derby prospect who lost his way but has been revitalised for the switch in stable to Ian Williams. CAP FRANCAIS came good up at Newmarket and was very unlucky not to double his tally at Chester when flying from the back of the pack last time. We know he handles the track and he doesn’t look anywhere near his ceiling rating yet.

16:30 – Concert Hall

Epsom Oaks

CONCERT HALL is going to be the value pick against a red-hot favourite in Emily Upjohn. She ran an eye-catching race although was beaten by six lengths by Homeless Songs in the Irish 1,000 Guineas last time. The way she powered through the line would suggest that this trip is going to bring about more improvement and she can cause a minor upset in the Fillies’ Classic.

17:10 – Ever Given

We saw him winning on soft ground at Chester last month when very well backed in the market, so the thunderstorms that hit the Epsom track earlier in the week shouldn’t bother EVER GIVEN too much. Hugo Palmer’s runner stepped up to Grade 2 company at Haydock but never got to dictate things from the front and finished down the field. A return to calmer waters in this Listed contest and with a 7f win at Chester last season on rain-softened ground already on his CV, he can go close again with just six other runners declared.

17:45 – Nuvolari

A course and distance winner when winning a Novice Stakes here last September, NUVOLARI has hit the crossbar in three subsequent starts. Two of those efforts were over the mile in April and May and those runs should leave him spot on for a return to 7f now. Joe Fanning takes over in the saddle off bottom weight and a workable draw in box seven can see him get competitive. He does need to settle better though and break cleanly from the gates.
