Horse Racing Tips: A 10/1 shot leads the charge at Thirsk today

The Racing Post's tipster gives Little Jo the nod at a healthy price in the last.

17:22 King’s Crown

A sizeable field of mostly inexperienced horses, coupled with the added complication of the draw, makes this a challenging opener. As always the market may hold relevant clues with Deccan Warrior arguably one of the more interesting newcomers. However, the advice is stick with proven form, with both KING’S CROWN and Noor Bano having shown ability. The former promises to be suited by a sixth furlong, and his recent York second was given a timely boost at Carlisle.

17:52 Belle Of Annandale (NAP)

Keith Dalgleish sends the improving BELLE OF ANNANDALE (nap) over the Scottish border in pursuit of her first career win, and she makes plenty of appeal in a winnable contest. As a sister to the useful Annandale (RPR 92) she’s taken time to find her feet but is slowly beginning to blossom, with her recent Musselburgh third (to Hilts) the strongest piece of form on offer. She can take this race in her stride before progressing onto better things. Richard Fahey’s Let Her Loose is next best.

18:22 Kapono

Many overlapping form lines. Dream Together is reliable so must enter calculations, while Rhythm is noteworthy in a race in which her trainer Ruth Carr has a decent record. Late Arrival is yet to win on turf but could reverse Nottingham form with As If By Chance, and Hail Sezer is also a possible for the in-form Geoffrey Harker. However, KAPONO is stepping back up to a more suitable trip and receives the vote.

18:52 Whitwell

Anything but a deep race. WHITWELL is an infrequent winner (1-14) but has finished runner-up on all three previous visits to Thirsk. He ran as well as could be expected behind a couple of in-form rivals at Carlisle recently, and is marginally favoured ahead of Cusack and Charlie Arthur.

19:22 Ribtide

The vote goes to the unexposed RIBTIDE who shaped well when runner-up at Newcastle in March and met plenty of trouble on his handicap debut here last time. Variety Island finished just in front of him that day and could be the main threat, with Just Another, Dark Side Thunder and bottom-weight Red How also respected.

19:52 Cuban Beat

Any sustained market move would serve to tip the scales heavily in favour of the Roger Varian-trained newcomer Qabilah but, based upon what we’ve witnessed on track so far, the likeliest winner is CUBAN BEAT. She finished third – just behind the now 96-rated Al Qareem – on debut at Kempton in November, before breaking the maiden tag in a willing and determined manner back there a few weeks later.

20:27 Little Jo

Magical Mile, in particular, and Diamond Haze are respected but LITTLE JO will be suited by any rain that falls and can add to the useful form shown in his two C&D runs. Safran comes into it on his York effort two runs ago while Antagonize and Irv also enter the argument.
