13:00 – Clenched

CLENCHED shaped well amidst greenness when finishing fifth on her debut at Haydock 11 days ago, doing her best work late on to pass the post around three lengths behind the winner. That was a very promising start to her career and there should be lots more to come from her with the run under her belt. In what is likely to prove an informative maiden, featuring several interesting newcomers, Clenched rates a solid option to get off the mark at the second attempt.

13:35 – Afterlife

AFTERLIFE could be the way to go in a field dominated by newcomers. He is certainly bred to be a precocious sort (by Kodiac out of a two-year-old winner) and the John and Thady Gosden yard is starting to hit top form with nine winners in the last 14 days. That tally includes a couple of two-year-old winners recently and it will be interesting to see whether the market gives this horse the vote of confidence.

14:10 – Asfour

ASFOUR is bred to be speedy being by Kodiac and a full brother to Lady Fanditha (who made a winning debut over five furlongs). The fact he cost 125,000 guineas as a yearling suggests he looks the part as well and Richard Hannon is a trainer who has plenty of first-time-out winners. The betting is likely to be very informative, but Asfour certainly has the profile of a horse who is likely to be winning races sooner rather than later.

14:40 – Eternal Pearl

ETERNAL PEARL took a big step forward when filling the runner-up spot in a listed contest at Goodwood earlier this month, keeping on well to be beaten just half a length. That form comfortably sets the standard in this maiden and she is likely to progress further, particularly now stepping up in trip to a mile and a half. A smart prospect, she looks banker material to open her account before going back up in grade.

15:10 – Scampi

SCAMPI again ran well when third at Chester last time, passing the post just a length behind the winner and looking unlucky not to finish closer still after hanging left in the final furlong. That form is working out well – the winner, fourth and sixth have all won since – and Scampi is only 1 lb higher in the weights today. He was twice placed over this course and distance last summer and this looks a good opportunity for him to go one place better.

15:40 – Nizaaka

NIZAAKA produced a career best when last seen getting off the mark at Wolverhampton in November, forging clear in the final two furlongs to win by eight and a half lengths. She then joined Jane Chapple-Hyam (formerly with Roger Varian) after being bought for 50,000 guineas in December and it will be interesting to see what she can do here on handicap debut. An opening BHA mark of 72 certainly looks workable judged on what she achieved at Wolverhampton.

16:10 – Hebrides

HEBRIDES looked a good prospect when defying a penalty in a novice at Nottingham earlier this month, staying on well to get the verdict by a neck. That was a fairly useful performance and he remains one to be interested in now making the switch to handicaps. A BHA mark of 84 looks a good starting point to life in this sphere and he remains with potential now stepping up to seven furlongs for the red-hot William Haggas yard (12 winners in the last 14 days).

16:40 – Prince Of Abington

PRINCE OF ABINGTON was below form on his latest outing at Leicester, but he had shaped with a bit more promise on his previous start at Wetherby, keeping on well to be beaten around three lengths. He clearly retains plenty of ability on that showing and the booking of William Buick today is a sign of intent. In a wide-open finale, Prince of Abington is well worth another chance to capitalise on his falling mark.
