13:45 Haydock – Dragon Symbol
ITV Saturday gets under way here with the Listed Achilles Stakes for over three-year-old’s over 5f. DRAGON SYMBOL was absolutely desperate on his debut for Roger Varian and size-wise did not look as though he had developed at all. That said, this is a huge drop in class for a horse knocking at the Group 1 door last season and I can’t oppose him. David Egan’s mount may improve a lot for his debut effort and let’s hope he can build on that tame display in the Duke of York.
14:05 Beverley – Distinguished Lady
ITV are also at Beverley Saturday for this juvenile event, the Hilary Needler, over 5f. DISTINGUISHED LADY made a decent debut at Newmarket for Richard Hannon when third behind Mawj and might be able to improve enough to score here under Hayley Turner from the excellent one stall. Could be a Queen Mary contender.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
14:20 Haydock – Mahrajaan
Now a handicap over 1m4f. There can be little doubt MAHRAJAAN is the sexy horse here provided the ground is not too fast. The William Haggas-trained lightly raced four-year-old has only had five starts and ended up last term with a third behind Surrey Gold in a decent event at York. He’s up 1lb from that but might have much more to come this term.
14:40 Beverley – Percys Lad
Now a handicap over nearly 1m. It’s not going to be easy for PERCY’S LAD to make all under 10st 3lb but he’ll give it a good go on the hat-trick for the inform Kubler team and William Buick. The big advantage for my selection is a decent draw to work from and many of these are far from in great shape.

14:55 Haydock – Sea La Rosa
This is the Group 3 Pinnacle Stakes over 1m4f for 4yo+ fillies and mares. Climate’s rating went up 8lb for finishing 4th of 6 at Newmarket last time which makes her the pick. But is the handicapper right? I’ll stick with the William Haggas stable once again and the progressive SEA LA ROSA who will stay strongly for Tom Marquand. She did well when last seen at Lingfield and while that was on the all-weather she’s fine on grass.
15:15 Beverley – Rogue Spirit
This is the The Two-Year-Old Trophy over 5f. ROGUE SPIRIT looked really good here on debut for Tom Clover and Jack Mitchell and might be able to follow up. My hope has a fine draw to work from in stall two and there is no reason why he won’t come on a bundle for that debut effort.

15:30 Haydock – Laneqash
Another Group 3 in the John of Gaunt for 4yo+ over 7f. LANEQASH has always promised much and this season she might deliver for Roger Varian with Dane O’Neill on top. The son of Cable Bay returned last season with a fine second to Sacred in the Hungerford and might be best fresh. Looked a right prospect when making a winning debut at Ascot.
15:45 Chester – Boardman
ITV show one race from Chester Saturday in this handicap over nearly 1m. BOARDMAN is right at the hilt of his handicap mark but he’s in such good form that he might just go in again for Tim Easterby and David Allan. A winner here last time off 92 he must have score off 95 and his chance will be improved by being in stall 2.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
