13:00 – Swear

SWEAR was still in need of the experience when fourth at Bath last time, never threatening to get seriously involved under a hands-and-heels ride. That run should bring her on again and this looks just an ordinary maiden which shouldn’t take much winning. In fact, even a repeat of that Bath form will give Swear leading claims for Richard Hannon, who has an impressive 24% strike rate at Brighton since the start of the 2018 season.

13:35 – Giselles Izzy

GISELLES IZZY showed improved form when filling the runner-up spot at Lingfield last week, staying on well to pass the post just a nose behind the winner. That was her first start on turf and it’s not out of the question that she may yet have more to offer after just five career starts in total. This will be a quicker-than-ideal turnaround after just eight days off, but it goes without saying that she is potentially well treated from the same mark if arriving in top form.

14:10 – Batchelor Boy

BATCHELOR BOY has a very good record at Brighton with three wins, the latest of which came over six furlongs here four weeks ago. He was produced to lead inside the final two furlongs and from there he showed a good attitude to hold off the chasing pack by a nose. This will be tougher following a 3-lb rise in the weights, but he remains on a good mark judged on the pick of his form. After all, he lines up here from a BHA mark of 73 having won off 77 back in June 2020.

14:45 – Think Trigger

THINK TRIGGER shaped with plenty of promise when last seen finishing third on his handicap debut at Kempton in January, running on well to be beaten only two lengths. That was a career-best effort and there should be more to come from him now stepping up in trip to a mile and a quarter. He is clearly capable of winning races from a BHA mark of 56 and this looks a good opportunity for him to get off the mark if ready to go after four months off.

    15:20 – Junoesque

JUNOESQUE has won eight times at Brighton and it very became a simple task when she was successful over this course and distance 10 days ago. Her four rivals were all well below form and she quickly put the race to bed after being produced to lead three furlongs out, ultimately winning by 11 lengths with any amount in hand. She is turned out quickly today under just a 4-lb penalty and another bold bid seems assured given her love affair with this track.

    15:55 – Poetic Force

POETIC FORCE ran well when finding one too good over this course and distance 10 days ago, doing his best work late on to pass the post just half a length behind the winner. That was another big step in the right direction and today’s conditions will be very similar again. He can race from the same mark as he did last time and it will be a surprise if he isn’t thereabouts under Jason Watson, who can boast a 22% strike rate when riding at Brighton in recent years.

    16:25 – Otago

OTAGO returned to form from out of the blue when beaten just a head at Lingfield last week, looking the likeliest winner at one stage (hit a low of 1.02 in-running) but not quite getting there. That was a very encouraging display and it’s surely just a matter of time before he resumes winning ways if holding his form. Lining up here from a BHA mark of 66, it’s worth remembering that he won off 69 as recently as last July.
