13:40 – Zarinsk

There is not much form to go on here so you are always guessing a little with newcomers, but there are some fancy pedigrees on display. Never Ending Story for Aidan O’Brien is a first foal out of Group 1 winning mare Athena and has to be respected, but I have plumped for ZARINSK in the Juddmonte  Farms’ colours. This is a family that has produced winners already and it’s interesting that Ger Lyons runs this filly here.

14:10 – Elanora

The Michael Grassick trained ELANORA is a speedy daughter of No Nay Never who has already been placed in a couple of big field handicaps this season. She is able to handle the ground and I think is fairly weighted to win here.

14:40 – Mac Swinney

Jim Bolger is a genius and it’s interesting that MAC SWINNEY has been pitched in here for his first start of the season. He finished third in the Champions Stakes at Ascot last year, won the Guineas and some of his form is top class. He was fourth in a derby so you’re not guessing and I just think Jim will have it ready for today. Alenquer for William Haggas is the obvious one along with State of Rest for Joseph O’Brien, but I’m taking a punt on Jim’s lad being ready.

15:10 – Pearls Galore

Joseph O’Brien has found a really nice race for this daughter of Twilight Zone. Twilight Spinner won very nicely at the track last time and has to be respected, but the one I am going for is PEARLS GALORE, who went to run in France and in the US at the back end last year. She won first time up this season in a nice race at Leopardstown and she could be set for a really good season.

15:45 – Mise En Scene

Irish 1000 Guineas

This filly missed the Guineas at Newmarket and maybe it will turn out to be a blessing. She is a daughter of Siyouni out of a mare who was related to a Guineas winner and when she finished fourth last year in the Fillies’ Mile she was doing her best work at the finish. She is reported to have wintered well and for that reason I think she is a really good each-way selection in this contest. Aidan O’Brien’s mob handed in here but that is no guarantee of success and I just feel MISE EN SCENE is worthy of the selection.

16:20 – Lustown Baba

Johnny Murtagh drops this one into a handicap having contested group races in her last two runs. LUSTOWN BABA has cheek pieces on for the first time in his contest and that added to the fact that she has some very good form could make the difference. I think she is a decent pick in a really competitive event.

16:50 – Juncture

Dark Vega finished her race off really well last time and with that run under her belt has to be of interest here. JUNCTURE is the one though. She ran in the 1000 guineas last time but the change in ground could make all the difference as it was very quick at Newmarket.

17:20 – Engagement Ring

Doesn’t look obvious on paper as Ryan Moore rides Ark. ENGAGEMENT RING, daughter of Galileo, is related to Capri who was a strong staying horse and Irish Derby winner. Also, Cypress Creek and Passion are all in the family so I’m taking a punt on this one.

Mick’s best bets:

13:40 – Zarinsk
14:10 – Elanora
14:40 – Mac Swinney
15:10 – Pearls Galore
15:45 – Mise En Scene
16:20 – Lustown Baba
16:50 – Juncture
17:20 – Engagement Ring
