Irish 1000 Guineas runners

Agartha

Trainer: Joseph Patrick O’Brien Jockey: Declan McDonogh Draw: 10

Useful filly. Creditable second to Homeless Songs and History in a couple of Guineas Trials at Leopardstown. More needed to go one better here.

Concert Hall

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: W. M. Lordan Draw: 5

Useful filly. Career best when winning 9-runner listed race at Navan (10f, good, 2/1) 29 days ago by short head from Magical Lagoon, just holding on. Looks vulnerable back down in trip.

Freedom Of Speech

Trainer: J. S. Bolger Jockey: K. J. Manning Draw: 9

Fairly useful filly. 18/1, creditable 4¼ lengths fourth of 8 to Rumbles of Thunder in listed race at Gowran (9.4f, good to soft) 18 days ago. Difficult ask.

Hermana Estrella

Trainer: J. A. Stack Jockey: Jamie Spencer Draw: 6

2,500 gns foal, £42,000 yearling, Starspangledbanner filly. 50/1, won 7-runner Fillies’ Sprint Stakes at Naas (5.9f, heavy) on debut by length from Quick Suzy. Off 12 months. Significantly up in trip. Should improve but this is a tough ask.

Aidan O'Brien

History

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: Seamie Heffernan Draw: 4

Lightly-raced winner. 3/1, career best when winning 11-runner Cornelscourt Stakes at Leopardstown (8f, good to soft) 14 days ago by ¾ length from Agartha, keeping on well. Will go on improving.

Homeless Songs

Trainer: D. K. Weld Jockey: C. D. Hayes Draw: 11

Promising type. Career best when winning 11-runner 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown (7f, good, 6/1) 50 days ago by length from Agartha, missing break but showing a deeply-impressive turn of foot. 1m unlikely to be an issue and can make presence felt.

Lady Of Inishfree

Trainer: Noel Meade Jockey: Oisin James Orr Draw: 12

Lightly-raced winner. Good 3¾ lengths sixth of 11 to History in Cornelscourt Stakes (16/1) at Leopardstown (8f, good to soft) 14 days ago. Easy to look elsewhere.

Lullaby

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: Emmet McNamara Draw: 13

Fairly useful filly. 7¾ lengths eighth of 11 to History in Cornelscourt Stakes at Leopardstown (8f, good to soft, 11/1) 14 days ago, hampered. Plenty to find on form.

Mise En Scene

Trainer: James Ferguson Jockey: Cieren Fallon Draw: 1

Made a winning start in impressive fashion at Haydock in July and improved her form a chunk when following up in Group 3 at Goodwood. Excellent fourth in Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket despite signs of greenness and probably best to forgive her run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Panama Red

Trainer: G. M. Lyons Jockey: C. T. Keane Draw: 2

Useful filly. Creditable 2 lengths fifth of 11 to History in Cornelscourt Stakes (5/1) at Leopardstown (8f, good to soft) 14 days ago. Up against it.

WilliamHaggasMay20b

Purplepay

Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: Tom Marquand Draw: 7

Progressive form in France last year for Cedric Rossi (sold €2,000,000 in December), winning 3 times before excellent 1¼ lengths third of 6 to Angel Bleu in Group 1 Criterium International (43/10) at Saint-Cloud (8f, soft), denied a clear run. Not taken lightly back against her own sex on return.

Star Girls Aalmal

Trainer: Henry de Bromhead Jockey: William James Lee Draw: 8

Enhanced her burgeoning reputation with another convincing victory in 4-runner minor event at Gowran (7f, good to soft) 39 days ago, readily. Not taken lightly.

Tuesday

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: Ryan Moore Draw: 3

Highly-regarded sister to 1000 Guineas winner Minding who was only just edged out by the more experienced Discoveries at the Curragh on sole 2-y-o start. Landed the odds with a good deal to spare in 17-runner maiden at Naas on return before excellent third in 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. Form pick.

Villanova Queen

Trainer: Mrs J. Harrington Jockey: Shane Foley Draw: 14#

Thrice-raced winner. 1¾ lengths third of 11 to Homeless Songs in 1000 Guineas Trial (22/1) at Leopardstown (7f, good) 50 days ago. Open to progress.

Irish 1000 Guineas tips

Rory Delargy: Tuesday probably improves for the Newmarket run but she didn’t have any excuses on the day. She’s got a decent chance but not an outstanding one and her price is too short. I can see MISE EN SCENE running well but I don’t know whether stall 1 is a good place to be. She’s definitely the sort to train on well from two to three and James Ferguson has done well this season. I wouldn’t be approaching this with a huge amount of confidence, however.

Paddy Power: HOMELESS SONGS was very taking when winning the Group 3 Guineas Trial in April over 7f. She finished very strongly so the 1m should be ideal. The Weld stable has been quiet but I reckon she’s a bit special.
