Gustav Holst put up a great performance when second recently at Windsor. Has been somewhat disappointing since but we will give him a pass for his last poor effort as he slipped really badly entering the home straight and never regained his confidence. He’s been found a weak opportunity to break his maiden status.
Alotaibi looked really good when winning on his racecourse debut last season but disappointed when the ground came up soft. His reappearance was very good without the team being in fantastic form and he should step forward from that run with better ground.
Dark Jedi can sometimes make it hard for his rider by being too keen in the early stages but he put up a really good performance behind Enemy three starts ago. That form has been boosted and he just hasn’t got into any sort of rhythm the last twice so now trainer Tim Easterby decides to switch riders and we get a huge upgrade with David Allan taking over.
We went with Movin Time last time and I was so disappointed when seeing him in the paddock for his seasonal debut as he looked like he had his head in the manger more than me over Christmas! I’m convinced he’s going to prove that run all wrong and we can expect a much better showing from him now as he’ll strip fitter this time.

Mighty Ulysses is a rapid improver and does have some serious quality to go with a few good entries in the not too distant future. He didn’t run badly at Epsom over 10f but took his form to another level over a mile at HQ last time. It’s another good opportunity for his young rider Benoit De La Sayette to shine.
Sunday Sovereign should be ready to roll after two fairly lackluster efforts the last twice and he wasn’t given anything like a hard time late in the day at Chester. He hit the line very nicely when not given a hard time and there are plenty in here who like to push forward. It should set the race up for his late finish.
Wings Of War looked an absolute picture in the prelims when finishing fourth behind Go Bears Go last time and has definitely got more size and scope to progress this season. Connections reach for the headgear which is a slight concern and also was not the choice of stable rider Adam Kirby. The jockeys don’t always get it right and we have an excellent substitute with David Probert taking over. Wings of War also races off level weights having carried an extra 4lb last time behind Go Bears Go.
Looks like the boys in blue are going to mop up all of the big mile races and this looks a great opportunity for the champion juvenile Native Trailto get back into the winners’ enclosure. He may have most fear from Buckaroo, but the opposition will really need to find an extra leg to beat the English 2,000 runner-up on all known form.

Silence Please had some rock-solid form for her previous trainer Jessica Harrington in Ireland and didn’t run too badly behind a big improver in Bartzella at Goodwood last time. The winner has gone up 14lbs since then and today’s selection was short of room at a vital stage in that contest. She can post a long overdue success since a Listed race win at Navan in June 2020.
When it goes her way Winter Power’s is a top-class sprinter and one of the keys to her successes has been jockey David Allan. He’s three-from-three aboard her and that could be the key for her to climb further up the sprinting ladder this season. This is a perfect stepping stone for bigger targets later on.
