Preference is for the resurgent POWER ON (nap) who did well to overcome trouble when scoring over 7f here last time and may well be able to strike again back up in trip. Triple C&D winner Pope Gregory has had a win and near miss in his last two runs and he’s feared most on his return to AW. The consistent English Spirit should give it another good shot, while others who could be dangerous are Odd Socks Havana and Mighty Fine.
The vote goes to FRAME RATE, who has won twice at this track in his last five starts and was a clear second behind his main market rival when dropped back to 1m6f here last time. Quiet Thunder was a promising third on her step up to 2m at Southwell last month and she’s feared most, though Brute Force was runner-up at Chelmsford on his recent comeback and has claims if he can build on that. Others to consider are Smart Boyo and Ghostly.
A trappy 3yo handicap. El Bello (second choice) was improving quickly when last seen and is respected in his hat-trick bid, while Quick Change, Giewont and Ellade also have something to recommend them. GALILEO GLASS isn’t straightforward but he has his fair share of ability and a gelding operation could be the catalyst for an improved showing.
Tango Tonight (second choice) took a good step forward when second over C&D on her return to action 13 days ago and she merits serious consideration despite her pedigree suggesting she’ll get further. Lory is of interest on her stable debut, while Fine Balance looks the part on paper and has to enter calculations. ASRAABB was in need of the experience at Lingfield on her debut and she could take a sizeable step forward with that run behind her.

Yazaman will doubtless have his supporters again and returning to 6f could help but he may be the type to get going too late whatever the trip. He’ll have his work cut out with NATIONWIDE in the field in any case, with John Butler’s 4yo still appealing as one of the better handicapped sprinters in training. Having seen off a rival now BHA-rated 91 on his stable debut, he looked one to follow when beating a subsequent winner over C&D on last month’s handicap debut and he won that race with some authority. It’s hard to believe he won’t be contesting much better races as the season progresses. Rebel Redemption may be the one for forecast backers.
Several possibles in an open event but THE NAIL GUNNER appeals most. A C&D winner in March, he is ideally drawn and can prove too strong for Red Alert (second choice), Inaam and Jumira Bridge.
Martineo (second choice) and Youllovemewheniwin can both go close but STARTER FOR TEN‘s Kempton win when last seen represents strong form for the grade and he can defy his rise in the weights.
Quite a few of these like it here and could return to form now back at this venue, notably three-time C&D winner Fitwood Star, but preference is for the well-bred handicap newcomer GREEK FLAME. She won a C&D novice in December and retains potential despite her subsequent disappointment at Newcastle. The improving Plumette is third on the list, ahead of last-time-out C&D winner Daheer.
