13:10 – Wild Max
He was probably flattered by the 13l winning margin but WILD MAX produced a good performance to win a recent Newton Abbot novice chase and has been found a very good opportunity to supplement that success here. Chasing debutant Timberman was fairly useful over hurdles and is the clear second choice.

13:45 – Marmalaid
The tentative pick in what looks a very weak mares’ race is MARMALAID, who wasn’t beaten far when fifth in what has turned out to be a fairly good bumper last year and may not have been suited by the soft ground when soundly beaten on her hurdling debut. Becky The Boo has by far the best form but things have gone badly wrong for her this year and she weakened worryingly quickly on her last two appearances.
14:20 – Full Of Light
The most obvious answer is FULL OF LIGHT, who dominated a C&D handicap from the front last month and has plenty of scope for further progress. Mr Tambourine Man won very stylishly at Exeter last month and is feared most, while Midnight Ginger earns very good marks for his consistency this year.
14:55 – Jony Max
Class-dropper Joueur Bresilien held his own in a good race at Newbury on his latest outing and could simply be too good for this field if on a going day. However, he has become very inconsistent and would appeal more on slower ground. Preference is for JONY MAX, who made pleasing progress last season and beat a next-time-out winner when scoring at Plumpton four weeks ago. Lord Bryan, a C&D winner last month, remains very well handicapped on older form.

15:30 – Lelantos
Espinator made excellent progress last summer/autumn but a 13lb hike up the weights for his latest win asks quite a lot of him on this first start for 231 days. His younger rival LELANTOS was also in very good form when last in action and may prove better handicapped. Cry Wolf returned from a break with two low-key runs towards the end of last season but sports new headgear here and ought to be much better suited by today’s trip and ground combination.
16:05 – Jeremy The Jinn
Mind Hunter gradually wound things up from the front and was nicely in command in the closing stages at Newton Abbot last month but slight preference is for JEREMY THE JINN, who was second on his handicap debut at Huntingdon two days later. Pilgrims King was unable to justify strong market support on his handicap debut in March but may yet deliver on the promise he showed in bumpers last spring.

16:40 – Motown Lake
This can go to MOTOWN LAKE (nap), who proved he’s fully effective on good ground when second at Newton Abbot last month and still has low mileage. Tikk Tock Boom has also been in good form lately and is second choice but likely front-runner Wavecrest could be difficult to reel in if he gets into a good jumping rhythm.
