There is over €1.4m on offer at ParisLongchamp this Sunday as the both the French 1000, and 2000 Guineas take place at the Parisian venue. A ten-race card offers plenty of punting angles, along with plenty of British and Irish interest across the afternoon’s racing.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Thursday’s card at ParisLongchamp saw plenty of close to the pace winner and it looks like the draw will play a crucial role in the two big ones. My NAP comes in the fillies 1000 Guineas, while my NB, runs in the French 2000 and, even though he looks a Champion in the making, the competition is fierce.

14:15 Rosacea (NAP)

We are treated to an incredibly strong renewal of the French 1000 Guineas this year and I think that, like 14 of the last 15 runnings of the race, it will go to France. Trainer Stephane Wattel’s ROSACEA is a bit of a freak in terms of breeding, and on the racecourse, she has looked even more freakish.

The daughter of Soldier Hollow devoured a strong field (2nd, 3rd and 4th all re-oppose here) on her return from a winter break and has now racked up a four-race winning sequence. Already proven over course and distance, Rosacea looked a different level to her rivals last month, in a race that included Mangoustine, who prior to that start was the Guineas hopeful for France.

It remains to be seen how good she is against the likes of Cachet and Aiden O’Brien’s Toy, but Rosacea looks the most exciting of the French line-up and, crucially, is drawn perfectly in stall one. With the anticipated strong pace likely to suit and jockey Theo Bachelot re-united with the filly, she ticks all the boxes for her in-form trainer.

14:55 Lassaut (NB)

He has been THE talking horse in the build up to this weekend and, although it may transpire that he needs a longer trip in time, Jean Claude Rouget’s LASSAUT looks a potentially outstanding racehorse. Although he is the only one of the sixteen runners without stakes race experience, Lassaut was electric over course and distance last time out and took some serious scalps in the process (including the re-opposing Tribalist).

The son of Almanzor comes from stall three and is the selection of jockey Cristian Demuro. His huge stride and tough attitude make him a perfect fit for a Guineas bid and he also boast entries in the French Derby and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. The negative is possibly his inexperience against the likes of Modern Games and Welwal, but if overcoming that then Lassaut could become Jean-Claude Rougets third winner in the race since in the last six years.

16:05 Berneuil (each way)

On what could potentially be a big weekend for the Lerner family (with La Parisienne in the first as well), I think that their Group winning sprinter BERNEUIL could return to form this Sunday. Heavy ground and an impossible draw thwarted his Group 1 bid last term and is worth forgetting.

With just the eight runners going to post for Sunday’s Listed contest, I am hoping that the return to fast ground, coupled with the straight 1000m track at ParisLongchamp, will return Berneuil to his brilliant best. Suesa disappointed on her return to action recently and I think she is worth taking on here, especially as the lightning fast Berneuil has the rail to help in stall two and will be ridden by the unbelievably in-form Christophe Soumillion.
