13:00 – Hathlool

HATHLOOL was only fifth at Ascot last time but he left the impression that he should have been second after having to wait for the gaps. He’s done most of his racing over a mile and a quarter since joining these connections – winning on three occasions – but his eye-catching effort at Ascot was at a mile and he gives the impression a well-run race at this trip should suit. He appeals as still being on a good mark.

13:30 – Mysterious Night

Charlie Appleby’s first two-year-old runner this season, Noble Style, won in impressive fashion so the Godolphin trainer’s two runners here are of obvious interest. Appleby is represented by MYSTERIOUS NIGHT and Winter Crown, with Mysterious Night the choice of William Buick. Mysterious Night, a son of Dark Angel, is a brother to the smart Althiqa, a dual Grade 1 winner in the US, and is out of the smart Listed winner Mistrusting, so he makes plenty of appeal on paper.

14:05 – Ibiza Rocks

IBIZA ROCKS was a bit disappointing on his return at Newmarket last month, finishing fifth of six, but that effort is best overlooked as he pulled too hard. Ibiza Rocks has only raced at seven furlongs, but, given his free-going style, he promises to be suited by this drop in trip, and he looks fairly handicapped based on the form of his second at Ascot last season. He is also entitled to be sharper with last month’s reappearance under his belt.

14:40 – Morghom

MORGHOM created an excellent impression on his debut in a mile maiden here last month, producing a sharp turn of foot to quicken three and three-quarter lengths clear of his rivals. He didn’t look short of speed on debut, so the drop to seven furlongs shouldn’t be a problem, and he can take this before going on to better things.

15:15 – Zabeir

ZABEIR was no match for Morghom on his debut here last month but he shaped well in second, coming home strongly after the penny dropped. Zabeir is entitled to be sharper for that experience and, based on the strength he showed at the finish, the step up to a mile and a quarter should bring about some improvement.

15:50 – Way Of Life

WAY OF LIFE made it four wins in a row when scoring at Lingfield last month, and he did so in convincing fashion, quickening three lengths clear of his rivals. He had plenty in hand on that occasion so a 7 lb rise in the weights doesn’t look severe. He’s clearly thriving and he ought to go close if proving as effective back on turf.

16:20 – Independent Act

INDEPENDENT ACT contested what is usually a red-hot race on his handicap debut at Newmarket last month but he emerged with credit in fourth. Independent Act was on his toes beforehand, but he is entitled to benefit from that experience, while the application of a hood might also help him relax. He’s a well-bred gelding who is in excellent hands with Charlie Appleby, so there should be more to come.
