I’ve landed on ZARGUN for Scott Dixon. I see there’s money for Fine Wine, who’s the other Dixon runner, but I fancy Zargun. He does a lot of his best running after a break. He’s also ran at York three times and he’s placed on every occasion. They’ve come in good handicaps too.
VIADELAMORE is the nicest horse. He showed plenty of promise for James Ferguson last season and he returned to win at Redcar last month. The form from that race looks good too.
I looked at Noon Star but I decided against her. I don’t think there’s much between Thunder Kiss and Forbearance but the price difference is because Thunder Kiss was giving Forbearance 3lbs when they were joined at the hip at Leopardstown. I like FORBEARANCE because she runs well in England, she won at York and Newmarket last year. I’m not investing heavily in this race but I’ll side with Forbearance.
Isla Kai is probably the right favourite and he’s still improving but the worry is he’s in stall 15, so I’ll swerve him. I like BRUNCH for Michael Dods. He’s hugely reliable and he wants a strong pace, which he’ll get. He didn’t run badly at all in the Lincoln and he stepped up again in the Sefton Stakes, finishing third behind Master Of The Seas.
I’m also going with WHATS THE STORY for Keith Dalgleish. He’s a course and distance winner and he’s got plenty of solid form. He showed a bit in the Lincoln but it didn’t go to plan. He improved on that at Kempton last time out and it was a fair enough run. He’s down to 97, which is a very competitive mark.

Desert Crown may be very promising but it’s impossible to peg exactly where he is. I’d like my selections to have more experience in these type of races. I’m on MASEKELA for Jason Watson and Andrew Balding. He was disappointing at Newmarket on his return this season but he lost to Eydon, who is a very good horse. Masekela didn’t settle well that day and the rest of his form from last season has held up. He’ll sit behind the rest, who will be going a strong pace, and he could pounce late on.
GET AHEAD is a good each-way bet. She won on her debut at Ascot last season and ran once more before having a long break. She returned at Kempton in March and she needed the run. She ran a blinder in the Lansdown Stakes at Bath, which was a 5f sprint, and her finish didn’t reflect how well she ran. She’s going the right way.
