ITV Racing at York gets underway on Thursday with a handicap over 5f. It’s first time out so I’m taking a chance JAWWAAL will be ready for Michael Dods and rider Paul Mulrennan. The seven-year-old is a decent sprint handicapper at his best and has been dropped 1lb for the start of the season. His fourth at York last year behind Copper Knight reads well and he’ll be staying on well if on song. Have a few quid eachway.
ITV are also at Salisbury on Thursday for this handicap over 1m2f. On hopefully a good day for James Ferguson I’ll go with VIADELAMORE under Hector Crouch. My selection returned this season with a win at Redcar off a mark of 79 and the success suggested he could defy a 5lb rise.
A Group 2 now for fillies over an extended 1m2f. VILLE DE GRACE had one or two excuses for her narrow defeat at Newmarket first time this season and can run a big one for Richard Kingscote and Sir Michael Stoute. The lightly raced daughter of Le Havre will appreciate going back to 10f, over which she won the Group 3 Pride Stakes last season.
A handicap over 1m. Wide open. You take a chance with CRUYFF TURN as his form is not consistent. That said my hope has the perfect opportunity to bang out from stall one and make all the running under David Allan for Tim Easterby. That’s what he did last season at this track off a mark of 95 and he’s only up 2lb here.

This is the Derby trial in the Group 2 Dante over an extended 1m2f. EL BODEGON had a little setback not so long ago but he might just be underestimated here for James Ferguson and Danny Muscutt. His Group 1 win in France last season has been given a big form boost and he clearly stays well. It’s impossible to know if he will improve like some of these, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed and will back him.
A Listed race over 5f. GET AHEAD has eachway claims here for Clive Cox and Liam Keniry. The daughter of Showcasing returned this season with a fabulous third in a big field at Bath and she did really well having ducked right at the start and got bumped. Must have place claims at least.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
