13:00 – Jean Genie
This looks between JEAN GENIE and Gaulois, who have achieved the most in this field, and preference is for the former. He has shown fair form over both hurdles and fences, running up to his best back in this sphere when runner-up at Warwick earlier this month, and he should have enough to belatedly open his account with a similar display back down in trip. Gaulois has failed to fire on his last two starts but would still pose a major threat if first-time cheekpieces have the desired effect.

13:30 – Aye Aye Charlie
This is the first time that AYE AYE CHARLIE has contested a Class 5 handicap so he might be worth one final opportunity to come good over fences, particularly as the new headgear combination could give him a bit extra. He isn’t the best of jumpers, but the level of form he has in the book is much stronger than his rivals. Wetanwindy has been in good form over hurdles and will be a major threat if taking to fences, while Millbank Flyer still retains some potential as a chaser.
14:05 – Tulin
TULIN was a winner on the Flat in France and won his first two starts for Paul Nicholls at Taunton last spring. He has found life tougher since, but he was beaten only a neck on handicap debut by one who had fallen to a good mark at Exeter in November, and it may be worth forgiving him a poor run last time. He has since undergone a wind operation and should be up to defying this mark which is now 4 lb lower. It could be that Thahab Ifraj and Diligent will emerge as the main dangers.
14:35 – Al Roc
AL ROC is now an 11-year-old, but signalled his time may be near when runner-up over further at Plumpton three weeks ago. That was just his fifth start for David Pipe and the addition of cheekpieces appeared to help. He has plenty of form over this sort of trip and he looks the percentage call from a reduced mark. Several of these arrive with question marks surrounding them, though past course and distance winner Oxwich Bay may emerge as the biggest threat.

15:10 – Mamluk
MAMLUK was a fairly useful winner on the Flat when trained in France and there was much more to like about his third run over hurdles when finishing third at Plumpton last month. He wasn’t knocked about and he left the impression he is capable of even better in this sphere, so the handicapper may have taken a chance with an opening mark of 99. He is open to more improvement than all of these and gets a weight-for-age allowance. This is easier than some of the races Port Or Starboard has been contesting so he looks most interesting of the remainder.
15:45 – Rosy Redrum
ROSY REDRUM looked a useful prospect when making a winning start at Wincanton in January and ran just as well in defeat in a deeper race at Newbury on her next start. She was well backed but wasn’t seen to best effect in the Grade 2 Nickel Coin at Aintree last time, and should be able to notch a second success in bumpers now having her sights lowered. Tomona and Energy One are a couple of interesting newcomers to note.

16:20 – Wotzizname
WOTZIZNAME was way head of the tailed-off Smithscorner on hunter debut and is expected to make light work of seeing off the same rival in what will probably be an uneventful match.
