13:15 – Sir Plato

Dundory readily drew clear of SIR PLATO to score over C&D 12 days ago and may yet have more to offer in cheekpieces but the latter has an 8lb pull in the weights today and is selected to gain his fifth course win. Granary Queen is also likely to be on the premises, while Lilandra finally got her head in front at Bath last week and is only 1lb higher here.

13:45 – Kiteflyer

A race of this nature ought to be a formality for KITEFLYER, who almost certainly ran to a useful level when placed in last month’s Wood Ditton at Newmarket. His stablemate Lebsayer also made a promising debut last month and is the main danger.

14:20 – Mashaan

Macs Dilemma looked in excellent nick when winning twice last month and is an obvious one for the shortlist but the suggestion is free-going front-runner MASHAAN, who has done well over 7f for his new stable in recent months and looks quite interesting back at 6f. Kool Moe Dee was a beaten favourite after fluffing the start on his latest outing but remains one to be interested in. May Remain is a more speculative option to consider.

14:50 – Desperate Hero

Mick Channon’s DESPERATE HERO kept on well in the closing stages and made a very pleasing debut when second at Goodwood 11 days ago. He gets the nod here. Salisbury fifth Girlswannahavefun also displayed significant promise on her first start and is feared most but Brave Emperor ought to be capable of a fair bit better than the bare form of his Beverley run.

15:20 – MR PC (nap)

Rhubarb belatedly opened her account with a pretty convincing C&D win 12 days ago and it will be interesting to see how well she copes with today’s 5lb higher mark but preference is for MR PC (nap), who has been placed over 6f on turf since his 5f AW win in March and ought to be suited by today’s drop back in trip. Not many of the others make significant appeal but a strong pace would give Secret Potion a chance.

15:50 – Russian Rumour

Catbird Seat brings some fair credentials from his AW campaign this year. RUSSIAN RUMOUR was runner-up over C&D 12 days ago, however, and a repeat of that form may suffice. Vin Rouge is third on the list.

16:20 – Eagles Dare

While there are plenty of major questions to be answered in this race, EAGLES DARE showed enough with his stout finish at Bath last time to suggest he may be capable of winning it. He ran on into fourth of 11 that day despite a persistent search for daylight at a crucial stage. Twilight Prince and Alkhattaaf, preferred in that order, were third and fourth in a 2m handicap here 12 days ago but a greater threat may come from Ascot Day who won this race three years ago and has been runner-up recently in his last two runs over hurdles.
