Ruby is all over the tellybox action at Ascot, Lingfield and Haydock.

1:45 Ascot – Boss Power

Sir Michael Stoute’s yard is in good form. It looked like Boss Power needed the run over 11f at Kempton last time out. His last two wins have come on the all weather but he did win off a much lower mark on the grass at York before that. Back at a mile and a half, there’s definitely a race in Boss Power. If he’s unlucky with the draw on Saturday then he’s worth keeping an eye on going forward!

2:20 Ascot – Stowell

I tipped Al Aasy when he was a non-runner at Chester. I think he wants to come back in trip but he’s back up to almost a mile and a half here so I’m going to go against him with Stowell. He had a nice comeback run behind Max Vega at Newbury and was progressing prior to finishing last of five behind Yibir at Newmarket in the Bahrain Trophy.

2:40 Lingfield – Lionel

Natural World won at Newbury last time out but Lionel was the eye-catcher in that race as he came flying home. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were to switch places. Walk Of Stars beat Hafit at Newbury but we saw New London blow out at Chester in the week so I’m going to take a chance on Lionel.

3:00 Haydock – Milkwood

Anna Bunina was good at Ayr to win the Scottish Champion Hurdle but the ground is key to her chances. Mark McDonagh rides to take off the 5lbs hike but I like the top weight Milkwood. He was second to Saldier in the Galway Hurdle then went to Uttoxeter when he was well beaten by Faivoir. He ran well in his comeback run at Ayr in the Scottish Champion Hurdle and I think he’ll have improved for that run. If we get decent ground, I’ll be with him.

3:15 Lingfield – Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson is out of Chicquita, the Irish Oaks winner that Johnny Murtagh rode, who was a tricky customer herself. Emily Dickinson definitely wasn’t knocked about at Leopardstown in April and I got the feeling watching Ryan Moore that day that he always thought she was going to win at Naas in her run after that. I accept the form may not have been the strongest but I loved the way she hit the line. There’s loads of improvement to come from Emily Dickinson so I’m with her!

3:30 Ascot – Spirit Of The Bay

I’m hoping Spirit Of The Bay’s reappearance run at Doncaster over a mile means the stiff, straight mile at Ascot will bring out the little bit of improvement that’s required. Clive Cox is a very good trainer so Spirit Of The Bay at an each-way price will do for me!

3:50 Lingfield – Thunder Beauty

Thunder Beauty ran really well at Ascot in a Listed race behind With Thanks and She Do was just behind her. She’s a bit of value. I know it’s Thunder Beauty’s first run of the season but it’s also She Do’s. I don’t think there should be that big of a price disparity between the two of them.

4:05 Ascot – One Ruler

The one that jumped off the page for me is One Ruler. There has to be a reason he’s here. He looked to be Godolphin’s second string in last year’s Epsom Derby based on jockey bookings and he’s dropping way back from that trip to 7f here. He did win over the distance as a two-year-old and maybe Charlie Appleby thinks he’s chucked in off 107. There has to be a reason for it and James Doyle rides at Ascot too rather than Lingfield.

Ruby Walsh’s best bets:

1:45 Ascot – Boss Power
2:20 Ascot – Stowell
2:40 Lingfield – Lionel
3:00 Haydock – Milkwood
3:15 Lingfield – Emily Dickinson
3:30 Ascot – Spirit Of The Bay
3:50 Lingfield – Thunder Beauty
4:05 Ascot – One Ruler
