17:45 – The Plimsoll Line

Hermes Le Gris showed more than enough in bumpers to suggest he can win over hurdles in due course but the one to beat is THE PLIMSOLL LINE, who chased home a progressive filly at Newbury last month.

Although QUICKBUCK beat only three rivals on last month’s handicap debut he did so pretty comfortably and is open to further improvement. Meanwhile, low-mileage 6yo Not Sure got his career back on track with a good effort last month and hat-trick-seeker Ashoka remains very well handicapped on old form. The latter pair look the main dangers to the selection.

18:50 – Fortunes Melody

Four-time hurdle winner Could Be Trouble has another go over fences after some very creditable runs this year and will find this easier than the Listed race she contested on her chasing debut in November. However, preference is for the proven chasing ability of FORTUNES MELODY, who returns to novice company after finishing second in a valuable Haydock handicap last month. Chasing debutant Kilmington Rose is the other key player.

19:20 – Irish Hill

Saint Riquier and Super Six (preferred in that order) both have pretty solid claims but it’s difficult to oppose IRISH HILL (nap), who didn’t need to be asked for maximum effort when winning off 4lb lower at Chepstow a fortnight ago and could plausibly be seen to even better effect over today’s longer trip. Courtandbould will be suited by today’s return to good ground and is a more speculative option to consider.

19:50 – Oceans Red

Still unexposed over fences, OCEANS RED appeared to have a bit left in the tank when opening his account at Bangor last month and can overcome a 4lb higher mark here. Lord Sparky has never won anywhere other than Huntingdon but he’s in good form and ought to make his presence felt here.

20:20 – Strong Leader

In what looks a fairly good bumper on paper, well-bred newcomer STRONG LEADER is taken to enhance his stable’s excellent record in these races. Blue Bear and Clapton Hill are two other newcomers with good credentials but winning pointer Victory Club is nominated as second choice.
