Repertoire absolutely bolted up on his return just nine days ago. Admittedly, it was in an easier contest, however, the handicapper has not been allowed his full say and he sits very well in from a ratings perspective. He has a middle draw to overcome but he travels strongly and has some serious class. There will be slight ease in the ground too as they’ll be racing on a fresh strip of turf.
Brentford Hope has always been an exciting horse to watch as he travels ominously well. He sometimes doesn’t always find as much as expected when maximum effort is required, but these are his favourite conditions. Having Jamie Spencer on board is the perfect combination. The biggest threat comes from the well-punted Lincoln disappointment Mujtaba.
Megallan has tried his hand up at the top level without success so far, but this could be his season to shine. His return to action at Newmarket behind Master Of The Seas was an excellent starting point. He looked a little bit heavy in the prelims and given natural progression, he’s going to be incredibly tough to beat. Al Aasy was the top rated but he was declared a non-runner so that should make Megallan’s task easier even if his price reflects that now.
After his maiden win at the Curragh, Cleveland was touted as a Derby possible but some training problems have kept him off the track for a very long time. His return run was excellent considering he was ‘wrong’ from a ratings perspective and that is bound to have brought him on significantly. He’s a complete unknown over this trip, but I don’t need to tell you what sort of form the Aidan O’Brien team is in and he’s an intruiging runner in the featured Chester Cup where Paddy’s paying 5 places.
Blue De Vega is not going to be anything like his return price when popping up at 50/1 but given that the yard’s runners often improve significantly for their return outing, we can expect a good jolt of improvement. He’s been put up 3lbs and jockey Luke Catton takes off 5lbs. There is a lot to like about his profile and he is totally flexible in terms of ground conditions.
