13:30 Chester – Star Of Lady M

The May meeting at Chester on ITV gets underway here with a conditions stakes for juveniles over 5f. STAR OF LADY M has no penalties for two wins and a good draw to work from so must have some sort of chance for David O’Meara and Danny Tudhope. The daughter of Havana Grey scored first time at Redcar before following up in a small field at Ripon.

13:50 Newton Abbot – Rouge Vif

ITV also show one jumps race Wednesday and it’s not a bad handicap chase at all over nearly 2m5f. ROUGE VIF if second run after a wind operation and might be good enough for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. He way tailed off at Sandown last time but a fair third to Mister Fisher prior to that at Kempton and was once a good horse.

14:05 Chester – Live In The Dream

Now a handicap over 5f. LIVE IN THE DREAM will be very hard to beat if in the same form as at Sandown last time. The Adam West-trained gelding rocketed out the stalls that day and made all the running off a mark of 84. He’s up to 92 here but has an ace draw for his running style and Ryan Moore on top.

14:40 Chester – Thoughts Of June

This is the Listed Cheshire Oaks over nearly 1m4f. Nothing stands out that has a rating, so I’ll take a chance with the maiden THOUGHTS OF JUNE for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. The daughter of Galileo goes at this trip for the first time and she kept up well against the re-opposing Above the Curve at Leopardstown last time. The weights are the same but the distance might make a difference.

15:10 Chester – New London

Now the Group 3 Chester Vase over an extended 1m4f. Hard to oppose NEW LONDON here for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. The son of Dubawi is only rated 99 at this point but I would hazard a guess he’s much better than that. A winner at Newmarket on debut, New London went back to that track last time for a novice stakes and looked very good in beating Aldous Huxley but just over two lengths. Likely to stay well and be a Derby contender.

15:40 Chester – Ever Given

Finally a handicap over 6f. EVER GIVEN will be revved up for this and might be able to give the weight away for Hugo Palmer and Danny Tudhope. My selection was a tough and talented juvenile. finishing fourth in Listed company on his final start having scored well at York earlier in the season when taking a big sales race. Has the perfect draw.
