13:30 Goodwood – Al Mubhir

ITV Friday gets under way at Goodwood with this conditions race for 3yo over 1m. AL MUBHIR looked a possible star on debut and may be able to overcome inexperience against some decent horses. The son of Frankel made his debut at Newmarket in October and defeated Filistine a length staying on well over 7f. The runner-up went on to score at Newmarket so hopefully the form will stand up for William Haggas and Tom Marquand.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

13:50 Newmarket – Subastar

ITV start at Newmarket with this Listed event for colts and geldings over 1m2f. This looks a fine race. Nations Pride looked good in Meydan, but I want to risk SUBASTAR who has to step up massively on a maiden at Newmarket in September to land a prize against this class. However, he might just do that as he looked really good in defeating Dawn of Liberation – who went on to score next time – and will relish a step up in distance. Could be decent for Roger Varian and David Egan.

14:25 Newmarket – Noble Truth

Here’s a Listed race over 7f for 3yo. NOBLE TRUTH had Group 1 juvenile form and a recent run abroad to his name so will probably be too good for Charlie Appleby and jockey William Buick. My hope was nowhere in Riyadh but as a youngster was close to Hoo Ya Mal in the Flying Scotsman and Angel Bleu in the Jean-Luc Lagardere. That latter race is a Group 1 and makes him hard to beat.

14:40 Goodwood – Stone Of Destiny

A handicap over 5f. This might be the time to risk the recently disappointing STONE OF DESTINY for Andrew Balding and David Probert. Once rated 106, my hope is now down to 94 and to be quite frank didn’t show that much at Newmarket last time. However, that was over 6f and I suspect he will be well suited to going back to 5f here. I’ll have a few quid on eachway.

15:00 Newmarket – Another Batt

A handicap over 7f. ANOTHER BATT should have place claims at least for the shrewd David and Nicola Barron combination and jockey Hollie Doyle. The old boy was in good form at the end of last season, scoring at Doncaster in October. This term he returned with a fair effort at the same track before disappointing at Musselburgh when having every chance. A mark of 93 is workable as his win came off 91 so has an eachway chance.

15:15 Goodwood – Lady Hayes

Now we are in Listed company with a fillies’ event over 1m4f. Not many to get too excited about here. Silence Please is dropped in trip after a series of placed efforts for Jessica Harrington. I’ll take a chance with the Roger Varian-trained LADY HAYES under Ray Dawson. It’s a big ride for Ray. It’s hard to say whether her best trip is a mile and a half or a mile and a quarter, but her second at Haydock to Alpinista over a mile and a half at Haydock in the Lancashire Oaks was a fine effort so she must have a chance.

15:35 Newmarket – Yibir

The big one of the day, the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes over 1m4f. Lack of pace might be an issue for hot favourite YIBIR but it’s impossible to think he will get beat and his class won’t bring him through. The Breeders’ Cup Turf hero returned this year with a fine second to Shahryar in the Dubai Sheema Classic and probably should have won that race. Running style is not suited to this race – he’s a hold up horse – but class is class.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
