14:25 Saturday – Fast Medicine

Fast Medicine didn’t look especially well handicapped last season, when he was successful on one of his seven starts and placed on another four occasions, but he proved a revelation on his return at Nottingham a couple of weeks ago, showing much improved form to register a six-length victory. Fast Medicine, who had been gelded prior to his return and was fitted with a hood for the first time, raced with zest and forged clear after hitting the front inside the final three furlongs. A good time, and the places being filled by some in-form sorts, suggested that there was no fluke about the performance, and he looks well treated under a 5lb penalty.

16:50 Saturday – King of Time

King of Time, a 475,000-guineas purchase as a yearling, has made a promising start to his career, winning a couple of novice races at Lingfield with more in hand than the winning margins would suggest, and the handicapper looks to have underestimated him. He has won both races by a length and a quarter, but he has done so without his rider having to get serious, while the contests being run at a steady gallop has masked his superiority. An opening handicap mark of 86 looks lenient for this well-bred gelding who can raise his game when competing in a race run at an end-to-end gallop.

16:15 Sunday – Stormy Ocean

Stormy Ocean, like King of Time, is an expensive purchase who is in excellent hands with Charlie Appleby and looks to be ahead of his mark. This 480,000-guineas purchase has already competed in handicap company, finishing only third at Wolverhampton last month but shaping better than the result would suggest. He couldn’t get cover from his wide draw (he raced three-wide) and ended up making his move sooner than ideal, which left him vulnerable inside the final 100 yards. The form of his novice success at Newcastle has worked out nicely, though, and he is better than he showed at Wolverhampton.

16:50 Sunday – Dynamic Talent

Dynamic Talent failed to make much of an impact in maiden and novice company last season, but he showed improved form to make a successful handicap debut on his return at Kempton last month, registering a straightforward success from the front. Dynamic Talent always looked in control and passed the post two and three-quarter lengths clear of the runner-up, who was five and a half lengths clear of the third. The handicapper has given him a 9 lb hike in the weights but even that might underestimate him.

Timeform’s best bets:

14:25 Saturday – Fast Medicine
16:50 Saturday – King of Time
16:15 Sunday – Stormy Ocean
16:50 Sunday – Dynamic Talent
