13:40 – Mythical Madness

This doesn’t look a strong event and veteran MYTHICAL MADNESS looks the one to beat having advertised he is in good health with a victory in a handicap at Lingfield 12 days ago. He turned in his best effort of the season, seeming suited by a return to more patient tactics, and the return to this longer trip and turf won’t pose a problem. A return to form from Tricorn would make him a major player and the newcomer Winter Daydream shouldn’t be dismissed for all it’s taken a long time for him to reach the track.

14:10 – Pub Crawl

PUB CRAWL is bred to be useful and has shown improved form since returning after a gelding operation this season, outrunning big odds when runner-up on return at Leicester and filling the same position on handicap debut at Epsom last time. He caught the eye with his finishing effort that day, shaping like he’ll relish this step up in trip, and he looks a big player racing from the same mark now. Zimmerman ran a fine race over course and distance earlier this month and should be in the mix again, whilst several handicap debutants can also feature, Kingwell chief amongst them.

14:40 – Comedian League

COMEDIAN LEADER was only a cheap purchase but has shown ability in both of her starts, leaving the impression she needed the experience on debut and showing bags of speed at Pontefract earlier this month. This looks a thin event and she remains open to improvement, so makes plenty of appeal. Gemcutter may also be able to put her experience to good use for a yard whose juveniles often step forward from their debut.

15:15 – Sense Of Duty

SENSE OF DUTY was well backed on debut last season, showing plenty of ability, and built on that promise when running out a facile winner of a maiden at Newbury on her final start. She barely had to improve, but it was hard not to be impressed by the manner in which she got the job done, quickly putting distance between herself and the rest when asked to open up. She has scope for plenty of improvement this season and should prove hard to beat. Origintrail ran well at Pontefract on return and looks the biggest threat.

15:50 – Liangel Hope

LIANGEL HOPE sets the standard on form and is very much unexposed over this trip so this looks a good opportunity for him to deservedly open his account. He matched the pick of his two-year-old efforts when runner-up at Southwell 11 days ago, the late headway he made that day suggesting that he’s ready for a step back up in trip, and this doesn’t look a strong event. Ardat was green on debut last year and is the type to improve for that initial experience.

16:25 – Grifter

GRIFTER remains a maiden but has plenty of solid form in tougher races than this and shaped well on his return to action at Beverley a fortnight ago. He would have likely finished a couple of lengths closer with a clear run, too, enduring a troubled passage two furlongs out and finishing with running left. Richard Fahey has his team in great form and a big run is expected. Monsieur Jumbo and Roudemental are both open to improvement stepping up to a mile for the first time and are feared most.

16:56 – Ha Long Bay

HA LONG BAY made a winning return at Catterick despite seeming to find the emphasis on speed against him, so he looks up to defying a penalty with the return to a mile sure to suit. The main danger could be Bold And Loyal, who remains capable of better back on turf, while Sweetest Company completes the shortlist.
