16:55 – Justcallmepete

Preference is for the very well-bred JUSTCALLMEPETE (nap), who justified support in good style on his handicap debut at Southwell last month and is open to more improvement back on turf. Second choice is Sixth Street, who went close in a Polytrack handicap on his recent return and represents a yard that won this race last year. Triple AW winner Nordic Glory has claims if he can transfer his progress back to turf, while another to keep an eye on is Martyn Meade’s handicap newcomer Cityjet.

17:25 – Swear

What A Dude shaped with promise in a Newbury maiden last Sunday and he should know more this time, while Ignac Lamar looks interesting after his front-running third at Southwell eight days ago. They are both respected but preference is for the well-bred debutante SWEAR, who has plenty of speed in her pedigree and represents a top yard with a good strike-rate with 2yos here in recent years. Other newcomers who need watching in the market are Grey’s Monument and Full Prime.

17:55 – I’m Mable

Top of the list is the progressive filly I’M MABLE, who returned from a break with a comfortable success at Chelmsford ten days ago and may well be able to strike again back on turf to make it four wins from her last six starts. The main threat could come from Lordsbridge Boy, who still looks feasibly treated on his clearcut win at Nottingham in October and was only narrowly denied on his seasonal return last year.

18:25 – Noble Masquerade

This looks tricky but Eve Johnson Houghton has two interesting contenders in Hyanna and NOBLE MASQUERADE, and it might be worth siding with the latter, a progressive dual winner last season including over C&D. The other one on the shortlist is triple course winner Lawn Ranger, who has claims if he can rediscover his spark back on turf.

18:55 – Head Chef

Tregony won five of her last six starts last season and is a big player if she can pick up where she left off, while Mercian Hymn ended last year with two clearcut wins and is strongly respected back in trip on his return. However, slight preference is for the Gosdens’ very well-bred filly DARLECTABLE YOU, who is still unexposed and could really kick on again back at 1m2f on her handicap debut.

19:25 – Aerospace

Preference is for the nicely bred Derby entry AEROSPACE, who wasn’t far behind serious Oaks prospect Emily Upjohn on his sole 2yo start and should progress well this season. Cosmic Desert, another Godolphin-owned runner, is feared most ahead of Deauville Legend. Market confidence behind newcomer Balhambar should be heeded.

19:55 – Circle Time

Most of these have plenty to prove and the one that stands out is the well-related CIRCLE TIME, who was a good second of 14 on his handicap debut at Kempton last month and is open to more progress on this switch to turf. Shabs has finished runner-up in two of his three handicaps and he’s feared most at this new trip. Another interesting contender is Clive Cox’s Midnight Train, who has a good pedigree and could show a lot more upped to 1m in his first handicap.
