13:50 Sandown – Head Law

ITV Saturday gets under way here with a novices’ handicap hurdle over 2m. HEAD LAW is up in grade here but is improving fast and might defy the handicapper. The Jonjo O’Neill Snr and Jnr runner absolutely hacked up at Southwell last time off a mark of 116 and is thumped up to 126 now. The 10lb would not have stopped him last time though and hopefully he’ll be good enough as a lightly raced horse in form.

14:05 Haydock – Boardman

ITV are also at Haydock on Saturday for this handicap over 7f. This is wide open. BOARDMAN might be the one for Tim Easterby and David Allan. This trip is ideal and he should be able to compete off a mark of 90 having once been as high as 96. His run at Redcar first time this season was perfectly reasonable and he should have each-way claims in a race where Paddy is paying 4 places.

14:25 Sandown – Mister Fisher

This is a Grade 2 Chase over an extended 2m6f. Neither MISTER FISHER or Saint Calvados are reliable to run to their best but preference is for the former who was just touched off in this last year by Frodon. Nicky Henderson’s runner loves good ground and he was impressive at Kempton earlier in the season. He has every chance under the excellent Nico de Boinville.

14:45 Leicester – Path Of Thunder

ITV go to Leicester for this Listed prize over 7f. Aratus is a horse I love, but I have to go with PATH OF THUNDER for the bang in form combination of Charlie Appleby and William Buick. The 107-rated gelding has been in fine form in Meydan and his third behind Storm Damage last time was a decent effort. Might well try and make all.

15:00 Sandown – Nube Negra

Now the Grade 1 Celebration Chase over nearly 2m. NUBE NEGRA has been absent since flopping in the Tingle Creek at this track but he started the season in great form at Cheltenham and it’s possible he will go well fresh for trainer Dan and jockey Harry Skelton. On ratings my hope has every chance and let’s face it, Greaneteen was very lucky to win the Tingle Creek and Sceau Royal should not really be quite good enough to win a race like this.

15:32 Sandown – Win My Wings

The handicap chase over 3m 5f is the feature race of the day. WIN MY WINGS was so impressive at Ayr in the Scottish National that she might just be able to hump 11st 12lb to success here. The problem is she’s not very big, but she was outstanding in the Eider Chase at Newcastle and in Scotland. She’s gone up 14lbs in the ratings and she might just be too classy. The gut feeling is this could easily be a step too far, but I’ll take the chance on Christian Williams’ star under Rob James who takes off 7lb.
