16:45 – La Renommee
The one to beat is LA RENOMMEE, who drops in grade after running a big race in a recent Grade 3 fillies’ handicap at Cheltenham. Second choice is very lightly raced 7yo Methodtothemagic, who made good ground from the rear to finish third on her hurdling debut last spring and can evidently go well when fresh.

17:20 – Peter’s Portrait
None of these can be relied upon heavily but PETER’S PORTRAIT only weakened out of contention in the closing stages when fourth on good ground here last month and he might be the answer. Monty Guiry made a disappointing start to his chasing career in the autumn but is sure to appreciate today’s drop in grade. Take Em Out is next on the list.
17:50 – Sabrina
Good cases can be made for a few of these but top of the list is low-mileage mare SABRINA (nap), who was placed in a competitive Grade 2 mares’ handicap at Newbury three weeks ago and still has potential. I’m A Starman was also placed in a good Newbury race when last in action and is feared most but Itacare, Flying Nun and Megaudais Speed all make significant appeal too.

18:20 – Pink Eyed Pedro
This can go to PINK EYED PEDRO, who hasn’t won for a while but gave a good account when sixth of 29 in a very competitive handicap over the big Aintree fences a fortnight ago and ought to be better suited by the quicker ground here. Second choice is Dublin Four, who suffered a mishap at Newbury last month but remains just 3lb higher than when winning in good style there in November.
18:50 – Valentino Dancer
There might still be some improvement to come from Paul Nicholls’ 4yo Irish Hill but he was left behind by the front pair on the run-in at Newbury three weeks ago and preference here is for VALENTINO DANCER. The topweight has fitness to prove after a 195-day absence but certainly doesn’t look harshly treated by a 1lb rise for his close second in a good race over C&D in October. Natty Night needs to learn to settle better but today’s switch to good ground might aid his cause.
19:20 – Gats and Co
Habitual front-runner Fier Jaguen has won four of his last five points in good style and needs to be taken very seriously on today’s hunter chase debut but it’s hard to oppose GATS AND CO, who displayed considerable improvement and looked in superb nick when winning handicaps here on his last two starts. Lessankan also represents race-sponsor David Brace and is next on the list.

19:50 – Benandgone
The most persuasive option in this tricky finale is BENANDGONE, who ran to a fair level when making the frame on his last three appearances. Welsby raced too freely and was a bit disappointing here in November but his 2m3f second here in October is probably the best piece of form on offer. French AQPS winner Iskar D’Airy has shown enough in bumpers for Gary Moore to suggest he can be very competitive at this sort of level over hurdles.
