13:20 – Dynamic Force

He looked really good when winning on debut at Ayr and had his trainer waxing lyrical about the season ahead. It didn’t all go to plan but he’s just the type that this patient handler Robert Cowell does so well with. Jamie Spencer has been booked for Dynamic Force which is always a positive for the stable and he is positioned nicely in the middle of the pack from a draw in stall six.

13:50 – Al Marmar

Made no mistake when a comfortable six length victor on the all-weather at Lingfield in early January.  His trainer Andrew Balding obviously had an eye on the big prize in Doha which is why he started him so early in the season. It nearly paid off in the Group Two event, but Al Marmar had to suffer a torrid run through to finish an unlucky fourth. He could be dangerously well handicapped of a mark of just 88.

14:25 – Mostahdaf

He’s only defeat last season was in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes where he was hemmed in on the inside and suffered a troubled passage. The Gosden’s wanted to test Mostahdaf in the Champion Stakes last year, but was overruled by the owners and went for the easier option in Group 3 company that he won over 9f at Newmarket. They always thought he would stay 10f though and now is his chance to prove it.

15:00 – Sunray Major

If Alcohol Free arrives in top condition, she’s going to be incredibly tough to beat. The vibe coming from connections is she may well be a sprinter this season or at least that option is open to her. Sunray Major is a half brother to Kingman and we have only just scratched the surface with his potential. He’ll need a career-best by some distance to win this, but that is entirely possible. Either way, we can then start to follow his progression throughout the season.

15:35 – River Thames

A wide-open Classic trial full of natural improvers with the Godolphin runner Goldspur setting the standard on form shown so far. However, if you stay 10f as a juvenile you’re going to get at least 1m 4f and further later on in your career. That may catch him out on return.

River Thames did exceptionally well on his racecourse debut at Punchestown for Aidan O’Brien as it’s very difficult to come from as far back as he did and win. Ballydoyle are due another win in this contest as we have to go back to Imperial Monarch in 2012 for their last success.
