16:35 – Open Mind
Most of these are open to progress and the market will probably offer some clues. Dashing Rat has the most experience and makes some appeal after a break, while Kitaab and Phinow should be able to step up on the form of their two outings last year. However, the verdict goes to Saeed Bin Suroor’s first runner in Britain this year, OPEN MIND. Gelded since he was last seen, he shaped well when third at Sandown last autumn and can get back on track after a break.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
17:05 – Light Up Our Stars
Brunel Charm is likely to go very well again but LIGHT UP OUR STARS (nap) appeared to win with plenty in hand over C&D two weeks ago and is still well treated on his old form. Good Humor remains of interest off 3lb lower than when successfully signing off for Roger Varian last autumn and is next on the list.
17:37 – Asad
Topweight Dubai Hope (second choice) is relatively lightly raced and may improve further this season but she faces a tough rival in ASAD, another returning from a break. The selection has a fine record at Chelmsford, including when winning over this distance after an absence. A market move for the stable switcher State Secretary would be worthy of note.
18:07 – Puerto De Vega
The waters are muddied by Mick Appleby saddling half the field, with Whittle Le Woods perhaps the pick of his three runners. Prontissimo is unexposed as a sprinter and this mark is unlikely to prove beyond him as the season progresses but he is returning from an absence and perhaps PUERTO DE VEGA can lower his colours. He’s 2-3 this season, powered home at Kempton last time and may be able to deal with his 9lb rise.

18:37 – Beat The Breeze
There’s been a sale and he has his first run for a different trainer but BEAT THE BREEZE brings such a good AW record that he is first on the list. Next is Baileys Derbyday who came back from a long layoff with a good run here two weeks ago.
19:07 – Crack Regiment
This looks tricky but CRACK REGIMENT was in top form to win over 1m in September on his only run at this track and he could be ready to hit that level again now that he has a run under his belt. Rhubarb Bikini is next on the list, having less to prove at this track than last-time-out scorers Rogue Force and Newton Jack.

19:37 – Man On A Mission
This looks very open. Arlecchino’s Gift impressed at Wolverhampton and looks good for another big effort but things dropped into place for MAN ON A MISSION at Lingfield and he looks set for another good showing. Music Banner has ground to make up on Bang On The Bell (behind Man On A Mission since) on their Wolverhampton run but he improved to win over C&D last time and there should be more to come from him, too.
