13:20 Sandown – Amazionian Dream

ITV Friday starts here with a 5f handicap. AMAZONIAN DREAM really got his act together at the end of last season and might be able to carry on the good work for Rod Millman and Ross Coakley. Stall 1 might not matter as he’s a horse who will be finishing off strongly and I was really impressed with his success at this track off a mark of 83. He’s up to 88 here but has eachway claims if ready first time.

13:50 Sandown – Al Marmar

This is the Esher Cup, a handicap over 1m. A tough handicap to sort out. I’ll take a chance eachway with AL MARMAR for Andrew Balding and David Probert. The son of Kodiac was a good winner at Lingfield on his second start and then seemed to run a cracker at Doha when fourth in a big field. Hard to know exactly what that form is worth but it was a local Group 2 and he’s rated just 88.

14:05 Perth – Platinumcard

ITV also go jumping Friday with this handicap hurdle over 2m. Hard to get away from PLATINUMCARD for Gordon Elliott and Sean Bowen. The Irish trainer seems to mop up here and having scored off 104 at Ayr he has every chance of goiing in again here off 111. It’s weak stuff.

14:25 Sandown – Mostahdaf

Now the Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes over 1m2f. Impossible to get away from MOSTAHDAF who should be too good for this lot for the Gosdens and Jim Crowley. Rated 114, my hope has to give 3lb and more away so is no certainty against rivals rated 112 and 111. That said, the son of Frankel has landed five of his six starts and after a fine win at Newmarket in October might be able to do better again this season.

14:40 Perth – Oscar Robertson

ITV also show this handicap chase over an extended 3m6f. A really decent handicap. OSCAR ROBERTSON look suitably slow for a race like this! He was behind likely favourite Poppa Poutine last time but I suspect this trip willl be right up his street. Has eachway claims for Tom George and Jonathan Burke.

15:00 Sandown – Alcohol Free

A big Group 2 here over a mile. The ground is not as soft as ALCOHOL FREE would like but ther’s no doubt she’s the one to beat for Andrew Balding and Rob Hornby, who takes over from the sidelined Oisin Murphy. The Coronation winner also landed the Sussex Stakes last term and proved her stamina after showing much speed as a juvenile. Her class should get her through here. even though one or two of these have had a run.

15:35 Sandown – Goldspur

A Group 3 Classic Trial over 1m2f which last year produced the Derby winner Adayar. It’s very dull and with a host of lightly raced opponents he’s no certainty – but it has to be GOLDSPUR for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. Rated 107 already, Goldspur ran three times as a juvenile, scoring at this track and Newmarket before finishing third in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud. The ground will have been soft enough that day and it sets a strong standard.
