COMPLETE UNKNOWN took five attempts to get off the mark over hurdles but last month’s breakthrough came in very competitive Grade 3 novices’ handicap at Sandown (2m4f, soft); not certain to be suited by the quicker ground here but should have more to offer over 3m.

16:20 Ludlow – Earth Cry (Racing Ahead, Ben Morgan)

Newcomer EARTH CRY is related to a host of winners, most of them in America and at up to a mile; stamina to prove but represents a yard that is 9-32 in bumpers this season so has to be taken seriously.

16:25 Salisbury – Kaasib (Daily Telegraph, Marlborough)

KAASIB was sent off favourite for his debut at Windsor 16 days ago (5f, good) but plenty went wrong, slipping at halfway and then having to wait for a run, before he finished strongly to go down by a neck; Democracy Dilemma may get closer today but this one sets a useful standard.

16:30 Catterick – Ventura Rascal (Yorkshire Post, The Duke)

VENTURA RASCAL improved his record to 5-15 when winning at Ayr (1m, good to firm) in final run last season but he was disappointing at Leicester (9-2) on recent return; handles most ground and this drop back in trip is no problem but he needs to bounce back near best.
