13:05 – Gold Miner

Brian Ellison’s 9yo GOLD MINER does not have an entirely convincing profile but he was running well here 11 days ago until a penultimate-flight blunder caused his saddle to slip and effectively ended his chance. He has a good opportunity to get off the mark today but Ludlow runner-up Robin Des Fox can pose a threat if coping with today’s quicker ground, while Dondiam moves up in trip and is a possible improver.

13:40 – Costly Diamond

There are question marks over a number, including Brelan D’As (form) and Ar Mest (chasing), but an ease in grade coupled with good ground should ensure that Armattiekan is a live contender. However, the choice is COSTLY DIAMOND. She was bowling along in front until jinking and unseating her rider at Bangor last time – possibly distracted by a loose horse – but is worth another chance on the strength of her excellent Sedgefield record.

14:10 – The Navigator (nap)

The wide-margin Wetherby scorer Spiritofthenorth will be a popular choice under the prolific Brian Hughes. However, with Lou Trek also able to front-run, he’s unlikely to get a solo and a strongly run race should play right into the hands of the nicely weighted Sedgefield specialist THE NAVIGATOR (nap). Dianne Sayer’s charge burst clear in a Class 2 contest at Musselburgh last month and can make light work of a 6lb rise.

14:45 – Frimuer De Lancray

A fair few of these have winning form at Sedgefield but the solution could lie elsewhere with Nietzche and FRIMEUR DE LANCRAY. The former is nicely weighted with the 5lb claim of Jack Andrews another welcome boost, while the selection appears certain to be winning races over fences sooner rather than later after producing a brave effort in defeat at Wetherby.

15:20 – Adherence

A modest race on paper, which offers Dis Donc the opportunity to build upon his recent selling win. However, Bernard Llewellyn’s ADHERENCE looks more interesting after his second at Newton Abbot. Punta Prima also enters the thinking in newly applied cheekpieces for his handicap debut and, with stamina in his pedigree, he could prove the most dangerous to the selection.

15:50 – Hurricane Dylan

There are various reasons to think that Akkapenko could take a step back in the right direction, while Phoenix Strike has been threatening of late but his stamina reserves (untested beyond 2m3f) are a concern. The safest option is the in-form veteran HURRICANE DYLAN. He is holding his form well and went down fighting in defeat at Stratford last time out.

16:20 – Monbeg Chit Chat

Global Racing possesses ability and shouldn’t be far away if managing to complete but a safer option is MONBEG CHIT CHAT. The selection was a winner at the Cheltenham Hunter Chase evening last April, and a return visit to the Cotswolds might be next on the agenda assuming all goes well.

16:55 – Imperial Merlin

Can’tsmilewithoutu is an interesting newcomer but he’ll need to be smart in order to take the scalp of IMPERIAL MERLIN, who was a massive eyecatcher in what was seemingly an above-average Wetherby bumper and can take this race in his stride before going on to achieve much better things over hurdles.
