A chance is taken on the fitness of low-mileage 4yo SUGAULI, who didn’t run very well on his AW debut in September but has strong claims in this grade if judged on his fifth in a competitive race over the straight mile at Doncaster two starts ago. Bronze River doesn’t have an exciting profile but he has less to prove than some of these and is on a workable mark. Goddess Of Fire is next on the list.

15:05 – Jungle Time
Soleil Blanc smacked of a surefire future winner last week at Windsor and she may know too much, but the newcomers are interesting. Miami Bay is perhaps the pick of George Boughey’s pair but a chance is taken on JUNGLE TIME, whose connections had a 2yo from the same sire win first time out at the weekend.
15:40 – King Francis
Last year’s first and second The City’s Phantom and Oh It’s Saucepot cross swords once more and Richard Spencer’s 5yo is again preferred given his excellent record after a break. He’s dangerous, especially if granted an uncontested lead, but the vote goes to KING FRANCIS (nap) who was impressive on his stable debut at Kempton and can follow up if handling this different surface.
16:10 – Franklin William
A few of these are open to improvement now entering handicap company and FRANKLIN WILLIAM very much falls into that category now he also goes up in distance. His final qualifying effort looks all the better now after Crenelle, whom he finished upsides, won a maiden at the Craven meeting. At Liberty is another likely to benefit from a rise in distance and he’s second choice. Mashkuur is more exposed but also enters the equation.
16:40 – Assessment
Sir Michael Stoute’s early-season runners have been shaping with plenty of promise without winning but ASSESSMENT can prove an exception. He pushed a previous winner close at Chelmsford and Security Code will do well to give him 7lb. Dungeon, a stablemate of the winner, is bred to do well at three.
17:10 – Dream By Day
Lethal Levi looks the best of those to have run and this ground may suit him better than the soft at Pontefract. But if there’s one horse well ahead of the handicapper it is DREAM BY DAY, who could be a very different proposition now gelded. Latin Lover has had the same procedure and he’s also of interest.
17:40 – Expert Opinion
World Of Windhover, Silver Dollar and Aish all have something to recommend them, while the veteran Outrage should be arriving late on the scene in a much weaker race than he is used to. Dark Side Prince should be winning races on turf this year but EXPERT OPINION is preferred today. A C&D winner last summer, he has looked as good as ever on AW over the winter and could well have more to come.
