The last 10 years, only one winner of The Irish Grand National has carried more than 11st. They tend to be down at the bottom of the weights. You get quite a range of prices. We’ve had three favourites in that time, but we’ve also had 150/1, 20/1 twice, 16/1 50/1 and 33/1 winners so you can get a bit of a result.

Fakir D’alene (each way)
The first one I’m going to go for is Gordon Elliot’s horse, Fakir D’alene. Carries 10st 11lb off a mark of 143 but Harry Swan takes off 7lb. Was an excellent 4th in the Kim Muir where Swan rode him and is completely unexposed over staying trips. The better ground shouldn’t inconvenience him. He’s only a seven-year-old and I think he’s improving so I’ll have him each way.

Mister Fogpatches (each way)
The other one is an old pal who let us down slightly in the Kim Muir, Mister Fogpatches. Danny Mullins is back up and I think that’s a positive as he didn’t jump well in the Kim Muir for Patrick Mullins when finishing 6th. Better ground here is a positive and I could see him hitting the places at least here with only 10st 6lb on his back and cheek pieces on for the first time. He’s really consistent and has a workable mark of 138.
