13:57 Southwell – Makyon

Arlo’s Sunshine is the only last time out winner in the line-up, indeed the bay gelding lines up here in search of a course and distance hat-trick. He wouldn’t probably require a career best to land the treble either having won off marks of 47 and 50 in classified events so races off the latter mark again. However, this is a lot more competitive and he also has to deal with a nine box draw which is a slight negative for one that likes to dominate his field from the start. I had a look at top weight The Retriever and the first time visored Hardy, but with loads of pace on here the selection could provide us with some each-way value. His slow start has cost him several times since his last win way back in 2019, but a repeat of his last two runs both here and at Wolverhampton could see him go close at a double figure price.

14:35 Fairyhouse – Womalko

I love these big field handicaps and this 25 runner hurdle over an extended two miles had my mouth salivating. I managed to finally get down to a short list of five, but when I looked at the respective prices of the quintet I was surprised at the odds on offer about the selection. If the forecast rains come then this is going to be quite a slog with no less than 11 horses that either like to lead or run as pressers in the line-up. The selection is tried and tested on both slower ground and over two and a half miles. A winner over 2m3f at Limerick off a mark of 97, he has since run a solid race behind Wild Hunt off a fully 12lbs higher mark (109). He should get a lovely tow into this big field event, and if Mark Walsh can ride with balls of steel and wait and wait and wait, this race could change dramatically once the field turn for home and the weak finishers fade away.

16:31 Newbury – Inchicore

This looks a rather moderate renewal of the Silver Bar Handicap with the majority of the nine runners on high enough marks and/or their yards badly out of form. Despite the ground probably being quicker than he likes, Alan King’s charge remains relatively unexposed over this trip for his astute handler. Raced mainly at a mile and a half through his nine race career, he was hugely impressive when seeing off eight rivals at Lingfield in May on his beloved deep ground. However, he hasn’t looked a one trick ‘going’ pony since with a cracking run at Chester in a Listed race last back end, only sixth of seven, but beaten less than two and a half lengths. Despite the size of the field this promises to be well run event and nothing will be staying on stronger down the home stretch at the Berkshire track. The selection gets the vote over the hat-trick seeking Master Milliner (up in grade) and Ahorsewithnoname.

16:52 Southwell – Sir Hector

Seven furlongs and racing at the sharp end was simply no good for the top weight last time out at Wolverhampton and this drop to a fast six and a middle draw from box number seven will probably make up Dale Swift’s mind to hold up partner up in midfield and that, to my mind, is exactly what he wants. That is exactly the way he was ridden when scoring off a one pound higher mark at Wolverhampton in December when flying through the field late on for a decisive success under Marco Ghiani. Of his rivals, I have the most respect for Della Mare who impressed with the way she knuckled down to record a neck success over Papas Girl last month. Only 1lbs higher here, the mare in turn is preferred to yet another course and distance winner Jack Ryan.
