13:50 Newbury – Thunderous

We start with a 1m 4f Group 3 and the booking of Christophe Soumillon for THUNDEROUS catches my eye. Some really good runs last year behind the likes of Sir Ron Priestly and Al Assy at Newmarket before finishing fourth to Wonderful Tonight at Royal Ascot. He hasn’t run since then but if ready first time up he can go close.

14:25 Newbury – Wild Beauty

I find it impossible to oppose WILD BEAUTY in the 7f Greenham Stakes which often sees the winner go forward to the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket in a couple of weeks. Her trainer Charlie Appleby has had 9 winners from 17 runners for a 53 per strike rate up to today and she’s sure to run her race with the stable in that type of form. William Buick is on fire too.

15:00 Newbury – Lusail

A 2,000 Guineas Trial this time where a lot of Angel Bleu’s better form came on soft ground last season and I’d be worried the drying ground will count against him. LUSAIL caught my eye last year when I saw him winning at York and I’ve no reason to go against him now in a race where the top two in the market look set to dominate.

15:14 Musselburgh – Zero Ten

Grand National winning trainer Emmet Mullins saddles ZERO TEN who was last seen finishing fifth in a Group One in France last season. There was no disgrace in that and while he has plenty of weight, he’s a horse Emmet loves. He trains next door to Willie Mullins in Closutton and has being back in training a while so hopefully will be fit enough first time up.

15:35 Newbury – Caradoc

I haven’t a strong opinion but with the extra places on offer I’ll go with Ed Walker’s CARADOC each-way. He’s drawn in stall 14 which should favour him towards the end the race on the stands’ side rather than been caught out in the middle of the track. He’s been running over 10f more recently and is guaranteed to say the trip in this valuable early season handicap.
