Musselburgh 13:32 – Bullet Force

ITV Saturday gets under way here with a handicap over 1m. Decent field this. Not many of these are absolutely proven stayers. BULLET FORCE should get a great position from stall 1 with a load of Mark and Charlie Johnston horses close to him who like to make the running. Upped to 1m at the end of last season my hope was outclassed at 100-1 in the Vertem Futurity but his effort before that in a handicap at Newmarket suggested he’s not too badly handicapped.

Newbury 13:50 – Raymond Tusk

ITV are also at Newbury for the Group 3 John Porter over 1m4f. I’ve always loved this race. This is not the best renewal and for that reason I’m happy to stick with the old boy RAYMOND TUSK who was right back to form for Alan King when winning at Doncaster in March. With a rating of 106 he is right in the mix here and he has proven stamina at this trip. Should give Martin Harley a decent spin.

Musselburgh 14:04 – Gweedore (each way)

Another handicap here over 7f. GWEEDORE was in terrific form at the end of last season and it’s not impossible the good run can continue. The Katie Scott gelding is ridden by Andrew Breslin who takes off 3lb and he has the speed to cope with this drop in trip after enjoying 1m last term. Added to that has a good draw to work from. Eachway claims.

Newbury 14:25 – Wild Beauty

Now a 1000 Guineas Classic trial in the Fred Darling over 7f. WILD BEAUTY is exposed for Charlie Appleby and William Buick but she brings in some decent form despite being a flop at the end of last season in the Fillies’ Mile. Her win in Grade 1 company at Woodbine was impressive and a second in the Sweet Solera also suggested she will have every chance here for an in form stable.

Musselburgh 14:39 – Dakota Gold

This time a handicap over 5f. Time to take on Raasel. I’ll have a go with DAKOTA GOLD who has plenty of speed around him and should get a good run into the race under Connor Beasley for Michael Dods. Once rated 111 Dakota Gold is down to 101 now and his stable is in fine form. Really should have place claims at the very least.

Newbury 15:00 – Perfect Power

Time for the colts to do their bit in a 2000 Guineas Classic trial in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes over 7f. PERFECT POWER is more likely to end up a Commonwealth Cup horse than a Guineas contender but can still take this for Richard Fahey and Christophe Soumillon. The Middle Park and Prix Morny winner has to prove stamina here but in this small field he has every chance to pounce late. Class should tell.

Musselburgh 15:14 – Themaxwecan

A handicap over 1m6f. THEMAXWECAN is not a well handicapped horse but this is just the type of race he goes well in for Charlie and Mark Johnston and Ben Curtis. My hope goes from a good draw and was a decent winner at Goodwood last season. He seems to have been around for ages but is only six and might still be capable of landing some decent prizes.

Newbury 15:35 – Saleymm (each way)

A tough handicap ends the coverage in the Spring Cup over 1m. Always a fun handicap to try and solve. SALEYMM is a tough stick and has strong eachway claims for Simon and Ed Crisford under James Doyle. The Lincoln runner-up has been popped up 1lb for that effort but is now second run after a wind operation and might still have more to offer. A high draw should be useful for a horse who can race close to the pace. Added to that my hope is lightly raced and a big beast open to improvement.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
