Paddy trader Frank Hickey leaves no stone unturned on Saturday.

Musselburgh 13:32 – Bullet Force

Bullet Force was second in two decent Sandown maidens before getting off the mark over 7f here. Was a decent third on handicap debut off a mark of 82 behind Modern Games. Bullet Force was outclassed in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity but there’s definitely scope off this mark.

Newbury 13:50 – Thunderous

Thunderous has won the Dante but didn’t run for the rest of the season after that. Was poor on reappearance but I thought his 4th in the Hardwicke was good enough to win this. When you factor in the fact that Ilaraab has a 3lb penalty then he’s 4lb clear. You’d imagine Mark Johnston will have him ready to go.

Newbury 14:25 – Miss Carol Ann

I’m going to take a chance on Miss Carol Ann for Roger Varian. Was very impressive on debut at Newmarket and you’d imagine we’re going to be dealing with Good ground here and that will suit. She’s in the 1000 Guineas, she’s a Kingman filly out of a Group-winning mare and I think she’s worth taking a chance on.

Musselburgh 14:39 – Fine Wine

Fine Wine might just have a fitness advantage over most of these who are making their seasonal reappearance. There’s a bit of pace on here but he’s drawn high in 10 of 11 which can be a massive positive here. Ran well at Pontefract on Monday from a decent draw and was second to Rayong. He should go out and grab the near-side rail and could be difficult to peg back.

Newbury 15:00 – Lusail (NAP)

I’d be worried about the ground and dropping back to 7f for Angel Bleu, he definitely appreciates testing ground and his last win came in France over 1m. Lusail won the Grade 2 July Stakes and Gimcrack Stakes, the latter under a penalty. The drying conditions will help and Richard Hannon always thought this one had the chance to be a Guineas horse this year.

Musselburgh 15:14 – Sir Rumi

I’m predicting a really good day for Richard Hannon. The one I like here is his, Sir Rumi. Won his maiden on second start at Nottingham over 1m after an excellent fourth at Newmarket on debut. Had a lovely reappearance at Doncaster in a 1m4f conditions race where he was wrong in the weights by 9lbs with the winner but there were a few 100-plus rated behind him that day. He’s well in off a mark of 94 and races prominently which isn’t a negative here.

Haydock 15:19 – Zabeel Champion

Zabeel Champion was disappointing on handicap debut at Carlisle in February but he was rated 103 on the Flat. The Jonjo O’Neill yard is in much better form now. He really should be winning off that mark of 116.

15:35 Newbury – Etonian (each way)

Etonian was a very good juvenile and I’ll take a swing on him at a bit of a price. On debut at Sandown he absolutely hammered One Ruler and he ended up, that season, winning a Group 3 and finishing 2nd in a Group 1. The selection only had one run last year, was really poor that day, and hasn’t been since since.

He runs here off a mark of 105 and I just think he’s a Group horse if he shows the ability of his first two runs. I don’t think he’d be running here unless he was fairly fit. He’s a wild price with Paddy paying five places each way.

16:15 Fairyhouse – Eric Bloodaxe

I just thought Eric Bloodaxe might be in his own class here. Has decent early-season form winning maiden hurdle at Naas before a 2nd to Ginto at Navan. Then won a Grade 2 just shy of 3m at Limerick where he beat Freedom To Dream. Runs off 133 and Shane Fitzgerald takes off a handy 5lbs. I’d be disappointed if he doesn’t run a good race.

16:50 Fairyhouse – Tax For Max

Tax For Max is rated 110 and was running in Group races in Germany before moving over here. Was a bit too keen over hurdles initially and was tried in the Triumph on second start before coming second behind Teahupoo on hurdle debut. Can surely strike off this sort of mark at some stage and Willie Mullins has won this five times in the last nine years, though he does have seven runners here!
