Horse racing tips: Jason Weaver’s Friday fancies for ITV’s racing at Newcastle and Lingfield

Jason has his say on the 9 races as ITV cover the all weather Championship finals at Newcastle and three other Lingfield races on Good Friday.

Newcastle 14:00 – Freescape

FREESCAPE has taken a massive step forward recently since winning back-to-back events at Dundalk, notably when running an absolute stormer behind Lord Glitters in Group 2 company. His handler David Marnane is always respected when he travels one over as his record with Royal Ascot winners  Settle For Bay and Dandy Boy shows. He’s a big each-way player.

Lingfield 14:20 – Mighty Gurkha

Archie Watson’s runner looks the forgotten horse in this line-up despite having some very strong form when able to dominate around this track. MIGHTY GURKHA only found Diligent Harry too strong around here in the all-weather championship final last season and a reproduction of anywhere near that form makes him a big each way player.

Newcastle 14:35 – Edraak

Michael Appleby’s charge has a bit to find in the ratings but EDRAAK is not a million miles away from his rivals as all the runners are up in triple digits for this competitive sprint. His three races here have provided a success, unlucky run and a non-staying performance over 7 furlongs. He’s got a potent change of gear when things fall right.

Lingfield 14:55 – Aasser

AASSER didn’t need to be at his best to get the job done when last seen at Wolverhampton dropping down to this 6f distance. He got involved in a pace duel when beaten the time before and, from an inside position, won’t get sucked into that same mistake again on Friday. Zameka and Vespasian, the two likely to be at the top of the market, look to have suspect attitudes. Aasser looks straightforward and game for the challenge.

Newcastle 15:10 – Kaboo

KABOO was backed at fancy prices for his debut in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot last season and put up a good performance to finish sixth but it took him two more starts to go on a hat-trick of wins over 5f and 6f. We can put a line through his run at Lingfield last month over 6f as he clearly didn’t handle the left-handed downhill nature of the track. He’s a massive brute of a horse and the straight sprint test will suit him down to the ground. He’s not at his ceiling rating yet.

Newcastle 15:45 – Internationalangel

INTERNATIONALANGEL has rapidly gone from a lowly 67 rating all the way up to triple digits (100) for trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam and arguably should be coming here looking to continue that winning sequence. However, he was posted wide the whole way round at Wolverhampton last time and could only finish seventh. Her previous run over this course and distance was mightily impressive and it looks a straight match between her and Highfield Princess for top honours.

Lingfield 16:00 – Shoot To Kill

SHOOT TO KILL has been a big improver for the Robyn Brisland stable, quickly rising up to his ratings perch of 85 at the moment. Things haven’t dropped right for him the last two times when third and fifth to some solid all-weather performers. Reunited with Darragh Keenan, he can be expected to put up a bold show at a nice price now.

Newcastle 16:15 – Rainbow Dreamer

Admittedly, RAINBOW DREAMER can run the odd clunker as he did last time, but his best form would give him every opportunity in this line-up. He’s drawn right down on the paint in stall one so hopefully he can get that ideal cover all the way around as he has a decent change of gear when produced correctly. Sir Chauvelin may be worth an interest at an each-way price.

Newcastle 16:45 – Tyrrhenian Sea

Roger Varian’s colt should be coming here with a perfect 100 per cent record but TYRRHENIAN SEA couldn’t magically turn into a helicopter and get himself out of a pocket at Kempton last time. He steps into tougher company but has limitless potential. Hopefully, he wins here and can improve himself on the turf later on in the season.
