They’ll cover the entire width of the course if all 15 stand their ground but defined groups are rare here and there’s unlikely to be much in the draw under the conditions. That doesn’t help narrow things down and the extended shortlist is headed by MACS DILEMMA, who could prove suited by the return to sprinting if getting away better for a trainer-jockey combination successful in a division of this last year, and Glamorous Force, who went close at Kempton on Friday.
The majority are hard to fancy and this looks good for MONSIEUR PATAT, who’s bounced back lately having tumbled down the weights last year. With the further drop in trip no great concern and a 2lb rise more than fair, he’s preferred to Winnetka and Breezyandbright, who’s returning from a layoff. Country Charm is most interesting among the likely bigger prices.
Ange De L’Amour shaped fairly well over C&D last Monday for a yard already on the boards with 2yos this spring, but FIFTY YEAR STORM and Malhumorada, two early foals who hold sales race entries for yards always to be respected in springtime 2yo races, are more interesting. Soleil Blanc, one of three runners for David Evans, is another bred to make a mark early.
A half-brother to two who’ve won first time out for the year in the past, including former stablemate Badri, this may be the time to catch habitual hard-puller EQUALITY, who resumes on a career-low mark. The Princes Poet, who’s 2-2 over C&D and has run well first time out in his two previous seasons, is another to consider, along with Stake Acclaim, who goes so well round here.

Very similar credentials make this field of lightly raced 3yos hard to split, so preference for the race-fit AFTER THE RAIN over Mystic Wells, at the other end of the weights, is on the tentative side. Cave Diver and Yummylicious may prove best of the rest but they should all bring potential.
Speak has the best form claims following her debut win and her subsequent result in a Group 2 is not hard to forgive. However, preference is for CHIMED and Maplewood who could be big improvers after they finished third on the AW on their only starts last year. Preference is for the Stoute-trained colt who looked the more straightforward in the closing stages. Sky Legend has caught the eye coming from the back on his two AW starts, so he is another one to consider.
The return to turf might ask a question of HE’S A LATCHICO (nap) but he looks easily the most solid candidate on other counts, bidding for his four-timer and with more to give. Qeyaady’s strong finish over 1m2f here last week makes him the chief danger, ahead of the maiden Zhang Fei.
This is a very difficult field to weigh up, given the major lack of solid form. Tiare and Eklil, preferred in that order, achieved something in AW handicaps last time, so they have a chance, but perhaps one of the handicap newcomers will now produce a much more prominent show. BELISA DE VEGA is one such candidate.
