13:50 – Donny Boy

Masked Crusader was an emphatic front-running winner at Carlisle last time and he’s open to further progress, while Fingal’s Hill forged clear at Newcastle last month and is also respected under his penalty. However, the vote goes to point, bumper and hurdle winner DONNY BOY, who has had tough assignments in Grade 2 events in his last two runs and sets a good standard back in calmer waters for a yard that won this in 2014 and 2019.

14:25 – Tough Out

This may lie between TOUGH OUT and last-time-out handicap winners The Jad Factor and West Lawn, preferred in that order given the selection’s potential with today’s step up in trip in his first handicap. There are good reasons to be positive about all three.

15:00 – Izzy’s Champion

Preference is for IZZY’S CHAMPION, who has won two of his last four starts and is only 2lb higher than for his gritty success over an odds-on rival at Musselburgh last month. Mah Mate Bob perked up with a creditable third off a reduced mark at Hexham and is a big danger if he can back that up. The Electrician was runner-up over hurdles last time and has claims if he takes to this new discipline, while Hidden Commander also looks interesting on his chase debut.

15:35 – Bavington Bob (nap)

Top of the list is Ann Hamilton’s progressive 7yo BAVINGTON BOB (nap), who completed a hat-trick with his strong-finishing win at Carlisle in February and may well be able to strike again here to make it 4-5 over fences. Broadway Joe has form figures of 111222 in this sphere and could pose a serious threat if he copes with this step back up in trip. Another to keep an eye on is four-time chase winner Get Out The Gate, who looks interesting off a dangerous mark back over fences.

16:10 – Paddy The Horse

This looks tricky but it might be worth siding with PADDY THE HORSE, who found improvement when runner-up on his handicap debut at Hexham last Monday and is an interesting contender off the same mark here. Recent Ayr winner Atlantic Dancer is feared most, ahead of Animore who could make a bold bid on her return to hurdling. Saint Arvans ran well at Newcastle last time and should be in the mix again, while others to consider are Black Pirate and the handicap newcomer Ritson.

16:45 – Takethepunishment

The one that appeals most is the lightly raced 12yo TAKETHEPUNISHMENT, who has finished first or second in nine of his 12 points and looks a big player on this switch to regulation fences. The pick of the opposition is triple point winner Alone No More, who was not beaten far in this race last year.

17:15 – Doyen Du Bar

The leading contender is DOYEN DU BAR, who was impressive when justifying strong support at Carlisle on his debut last spring. He returns from a year off but this 6yo sets a clear standard on his initial form and gets the vote for a yard that won this race last year. Spectacular Genius looks the main danger, though there are some newcomers who need watching in the market, notably the Nicky Richards-trained Maughold Head.
