13:30 Radiyka

The flat season is back after Paddy Power Irish Lincoln day at the Curragh on Saturday and hopefully RADIYKA can strike in the opening 6-furlong maiden at Naas on Sunday. The daughter of Lope De Vega was ahead of Past Time at Galway last summer and her debut second to Juncture has also worked out well. The Ger Lyons trained winner was a subsequent second in the Silver Flash Stakes before landing a Listed event on return at Dundalk earlier this month.

The Aga Khan owned filly wasn’t disgraced when challenging wide to finish sixth on her final run of her juvenile season at Leopardstown last October, and the drop back in trip looks a positive move from Dermot Weld. Elsewhere, Rosslare Strand looks a big danger for Henry De Bromhead following a fine third to Pennine Hills at Fairyhouse, while Witch Of The Wood should improve for the Fozzy Stack team.

14:40 Vivaia

VIVAIA should represent value for the Rosewell team on her handicap debut over 5-furlongs in our third race at Naas this Sunday afternoon. The daughter of Kodiac showed some promise when fifth on debut here last June with that race subsequently working out extremely well over the season. Scared Bridge went on to win three more times for Ger Lyons, including success in the Round Tower Stakes, while second home, Agartha won the Debutante Stakes before finishing second in the Moyglare last September.

Vivaia disappointed on softer ground over 7-furlongs last October at HQ and an opening handicap rating of 69 looks interesting now returning to this minimum trip. I think she’ll appreciate dropping down to 5-furlongs with the drying ground also playing into her hands with Chris Hayes in the saddle. Pandemic Princess is ultra-consistent for Richard O’Brien and fit from recent starts at Dundalk, while Super Cub on debut for Denis Hogan looks intriguing with Juno Beach another for the shortlist.

15:50 West Coast (NB)

This Premier Handicap could be an early season battle between Colin Keane and Ryan Moore with both Markaz Paname and WEST COAST the most likely winners for me. Markaz Paname was well backed and ran out an impressive winner when scoring on debut at Cork last September before finishing a creditable third in Listed company at Dundalk in October. However, the Aidan O’Brien trained daughter of Dark Angel has the scope to improve further and progress into a listed if not group performer this season in my opinion.

West Coast improved for her opening two starts of last season at Punchestown and Dundalk and there was plenty to like about her winning performance at Leopardstown in October. She dominated from the front in comfortable fashion and went away at the line to suggest she’ll improve further as a three-year-old. This looks a good opportunity to assess her ability moving forward before a possible tilt at a classic trial next month. Cowboy Justice using a tongue-tie for the first time and Gaire Os Ard look the obvious dangers to challenge for a place.

16:25 Patrick Sarsfield

PATRICK SARSFIELD is starting this season a little earlier than his previous two with Joseph O’Brien’s runner scoring on his seasonal debut in June 2020 and finishing second on debut also in June of last year. The son of Australia stands out on form and the drying ground conditions should help his chances with Declan McDonagh once again in the saddle. His previous runs behind Barney Roy and St Mark’s Basilica in recent seasons stand out and he’s worth another chance against these rivals.

The ground was completely against him when finishing behind Jason The Militant here last October, with Henry De Bromhead’s dual performer looking to prefer much softer ground conditions. Licence looks the dark horse for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane following his eye-catching victory at Gowran Park last summer. The son of Frankel has not been seen since but looks the type to secure some nice races for the Glenburnie team this season at stakes level.

17:00 Tuesday (NAP)

TUESDAY was unlucky to come up against a smart filly on debut at the Curragh last June with Discoveries subsequently enhancing the form with success in the Moyglare last September. Aidan O’Brien’s filly is bred in the purple, by Galileo out of Lillie Langtry, which makes her a full sister to the wonderful Minding. The Ballydoyle team have won the previous two renewals of this maiden and were successful last year with Empress Josephine who later secured classic glory in the Irish 1,000 Guineas.

Tuesday will be a short price under Ryan Moore but stands out as the best bet on the card with the extra furlong looking a positive. Hopefully another Jessica Harrington trained filly won’t stop Tuesday from breaking her maiden here, but Verlinga, a daughter of Dubawi out of Group 2 winner Bocca Baciata looks an obvious danger on debut, while Esculenta, Georgeta and Ezine look the others to challenge for the places.
