13:15 Doncaster – Persian Force
ITV Saturday gets under way here with the start of the Flat turf season in earnest via the Brocklesby over 5f for juveniles. Obviously this is a guessing game, but there are plenty of reasons to think connections of PERSIAN FORCE would be disappointed not to win. For a start owner Amo Racing would enjoy this prize early in the season as big spenders, which saw them cough up €225,000 for this Mehmas colt. Added to that Richard Hannon is a dab hand with this sort of horse. Rossa Ryan is booked.

13:35 Kelso – Son Of The Somme
ITV are also at Kelso Saturday with this handicap hurdle over 2m5f. SON OF THE SOMME is improving all the time even though he suffered an expensive defeat at Doncaster last time. He started handicapping off 89 for Brian Ellison and is now up to 110 but is still able to get better and a slight rise in trip could enable that with Brian Hughes on top.
13:50 Doncaster – Bielsa
This is the Listed Cammidge Trophy over 6f. BIELSA goes in the ground and cause a little upset for Kevin Ryan and Kevin Stott. The seven-year-old has been a great servant, and was tipped up in this column to win the Ayr Gold Cup at 15-2. Conditions are ideal here for him to make a splash as long as the ground does not dry out too much.
14:05 Kempton – Felix
Also Flat racing at Kempton numbering this Listed Magnolia Stakes over 1m2f. FELIX might just take this for Marco Botti and Danny Muscutt who has been in great form on the all-weather. Once rated 110, my hope is on 107 now but gets no penalty and 3lb from Fancy Man. His run last time in Meydan was pretty good in Group 1 company and he has fine each-way claims at least.
14:25 Doncaster – Mostawaa
Now a big handicap in the Spring Mile. A terrible renewal but a tough race to crack. MOSTAWAA was third in this race last year for Heather Main and might be able to go two places better under Silvestre de Sousa. That placing was off a mark of 88 and he’s down to 83 now. He has strong each-way claims.
14:40 Kempton – Bandinelli
The Queen’s Prize Handicap over 2m. BANDINELLI looked like an improving stayer when last seen at Kempton scoring off 90 and might easily be able to cope with a 5lb rise if ready after the lay off. Jack Mitchell is a good jockey booking and provided he doesn’t get blocked in stall one should be a positive with the cut away late on.
15:00 Doncaster – Chindit
Another Listed race in the Doncaster Mile. It’s hard to get away from CHINDIT who was for many a bit disappointing last season but should be able to take this prize for Richard Hannon and Rossa Ryan. His three-year-old campaign included a fifth in a big field behind Poetic Flare in the St James’s Palace Stakes, as well as a similar placing in the 2000 Guineas. That kind of performance should be good enough here.

15:15 Kelso – Theatre Glory
Another from Kelso in a novices’ handicap hurdle over 2m. THEATRE GLORY has a big weight but might just outclass this field for Nicky Henderson with Nathan Brennan taking off a tasty 7lb. The lightly raced daughter of Fame and Glory has only been beaten once in four starts and did well at Warwick last time.
15:35 Doncaster – Modern News
The big betting race of the day in the Lincoln Handicap over 1m. MODERN NEWS is the opposite to Bielsa in that he would want the ground to dry out a bit. If it does – and the forecast is awesome – then the Godolphin runner has a great chance for Charlie Appleby and Harry Davies. The handler believes his horse is a Group performer in the making and he can effectively run off 98 here with the jockey’s 7lb claim. That might be good enough after a promising run at Meydan recently. The step up in trip looks ideal.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
