Don’t know what a NAPs table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets). The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the table. Let’s get to the bets…
BALLYBEEN was one of the favourites when beaten just over 3l on his handicap debut at Bangor (2m7f, soft) and that was after a wide trip throughout. If okay on the ground he should be thereabouts.
AMETIST kicked off last year’s campaign with three 7f wins and got back on track in first-time cheekpieces (retained today) when third in the competitive Cambridgeshire over 1m1f at Newmarket last time out in September. This 5yo remains lightly raced and could have more to offer for his top trainer.
SMALL PRESENT was a bit disappointing over 3m at Haydock last time but he’d previously won over the same C&D (soft) in January and he’s only 3lb higher here. His record on good ground is impressive (two wins and two seconds from six outings) and cheekpieces may eke out a bit more improvement.
ONTHEROUGE is nicely bred (dam a bumper winner out of a half-sister to the yard’s high-class Clever Cookie) and he made a clearcut winning start at Sedgefield (good to soft; 5-1) ten weeks ago, making all. Should make his presence felt under a penalty.
