ITV racing has a real mix this weekend with action from Doncaster and Kempton on the Flat plus jumping action from Kelso. Here’s a Lucky 15 to hopefully steer you through.

13:35 Kelso – Son Of The Somme

Son Of The Somme got beaten by Jet of Magic at Doncaster, but there was no disgrace in that and he previously had won very nicely at Wetherby. Champion jockey elect Brian Hughes has been booked and the form stacks up. Sheriff Garret is the danger now that the headgear has been removed as we saw last time.

14:40 Kempton – Imperium

Harry And Roger Charlton now share the licence and this would be the perfect way to kick the new season off. Imperium, a son of Frankel, is a winner at the track over the course and distance. He is very fairly handicapped on his best form and comes into this contest, fit and firing after finishing third at Newcastle earlier this month to Nate the Great. Auriferous is the danger with a light weight on his back.

15:15 Kelso – Aliomaana

This four-year-old filly Aliomaana receives so much weight from Theatre Glory that it is really hard to ignore. She is not the greatest jumper but the track will give her plenty of time to get back on an even keel. Her 10lb weight-for-age allowance is another pull. She won nicely after a break at Wincanton, too. Theatre Glory is a very honest filly who will run to the line. However, giving all that weight away makes life difficult.

15:35 Doncaster – Brunch

The feature race of the day is the Lincoln Handicap and Brunch was second in this last year when drawn in stall 15 when racing off a 4lb lower mark. He is still attractive off his present mark and is drawn in stall 14 this time. Michael Dods has not had many runners of late but his last couple have been really competitive. I am happy with Brunch as he is proven in a race like this and is good each-way value in a race where Paddy is paying 6 places.

There are lots of young improvers in the line-up as you’d expect and a case can be argued for lots of them. Saleymm has had a wind operation and the fact that he won while that problem was there speaks volumes. He could be better than his current handicap mark.

Modern News is the mount of bright, young star claimer, Harry Davies. It’s interesting that Charlie Appleby is taking 7lbs off his charge and that definitely helps his chance. Last year’s winner Haqeeqy  was of a similar profile to Mujtaba. After watching him win at Redcar last season, he looked a big, raw, type who can only improve.
